Today's Topic for Debate

So, many social conservatives, including Alan Keyes, are known for positing that homosexuality is learned behavior, or at least that people "choose" to engage in what they deem a "perversion." Those people and many of their fellow travelers believe that legislating morals, at least to the extent of things like DOMA, sodomy laws, is essential to prevent the spread of homosexuality.

So.... How do upright, moral, Christian conservative folk like Dick Cheney and Alan Keyes explain their daughters? Cheney is acknowledged as having become more tolerant of gays than he was in the past since Mary came out. However, if the conservative crowd is right, then how could he have possibly raised hisself a queer to begin with?

Discuss.

Since you mention Keyes, I suppose you've read that Keyes' daughter recently came out of the closet. Keyes' response, apparently, was to toss her out of the house.

What's there to debate? Keyes is certifyable. Cheney, it appears to me, is doing his best to toe the line between his family life and his obligations to the President.

As far as the logic of you post, I certainly don't agree that homosexuality is learned behavior, but behavior can be learned outside of the home.

The Law of Unintended Consequences

CA is considering taxing drivers by the mile. Apparently, one consequence of hybrid vehicles is lower receipts from gas taxes. Who knew?

I saw a discussion of something similar in Texas a few months ago. The way to do it, though, involves putting a GPS in every car, and keeping track of milage that way. The privacy people are understandably queasy about such a proposition.

For the record: I realize I came to this late but Evolution is a fact. It has been observed, recorded and catalogued in real time. Whether or not all life on earth came from one replicating nucleic acid strand a few billion years ago before we had an oxygen and nitrogen atmosphere is a theory. A theory supported by strong evidence but still a theory.

nah. that'd be the abortion debate that stupidly comes up from time to time, though i'm pretty sure not a single mind has been changed in the two years we've been slugging it out.

hank, pull out your "evolution is just a theory that has a lot of holes" macro and let's all move on.

Nice- insipid and w/o any tie to science, but good try!

Look you're either a sock in which case I've kicked your ass here before, or you're truly new (which i doubt). If you are really new and trying to make your bones better to take on the Alpha Male first- like your first day in prison you kick the biggest guy's ass-

Well go to the Fashion board and start flaming notfromhere- he is typically seen as the biggest meanest baddest poster. You hold your own with him then we'll give you respect here- now fly away and bring me the broom of nfh!!!!

FWIW, he's new. I have lots of confirmation on this.
