In other news
I am back to really, really liking my boss (even if she's a little wacky sometimes) and I think she has completely gotten over the thing I fucked up a couple weeks ago. Life is good.

He was 65, and a fighting man, so not nearly at what we now think of as pants-hiking age.

Photo Question
Which produces better quality digital photos from printed pre-digital camera pictures - taking the photos into CVS and using their scanners (I guess) to put the photos onto a CD or photographing the photos with a new digital camera, resolution turned all the way up (natural light, assume photo taker has some ability to hold the camera still)???
I have a bunch of old pictures that I want in digital format and I haven't done this before. Photographing the pictures is proving to be more challenging than I had thought it would be, but sort of works. Anyone done the CVS/Ritz Camera (for example) thing?

I took a bunch of photos of me and my best friend to Wolf Camera to get them scanned. They did a nice job, and I am glad to have the photos in digital format. I will admit it never occurred to me to photograph the photo with my digital camera.
Those photo scanning machines won't work on any photos you had professionally taken. Just so you know.

WHat are these "professional photos" of which you speak? I have tons of snapshots. Mr. Man's brother told us to do the picture of a picture thing, but it is harder than you would think to get the new camera to focus correctly (and me to hold the camera still enough) to get a clear, well-focused picture. I think I may go to Plan B.

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.

Theoretically, any good scanner should do a better job - just look at the pixel count produced by the two, and the scanner should be able to produce a 25 or 30 MB image easily.
But, most people don't like 25 or 30MB images, so a lot of places will compress downward, so your scan is no better than what you could have gotten out of the camera. Plus, if the place doesn't maintain it, you'll be scanning whatever residues, fluids, and scratches have been place on the scanner by prior patrons. Find a place where the scanner is behind the counter, rather than CVS, if you care about the images.
Best choice - a $150 home scanner, and scan forever more with minimal marginal cost.
Second best choice, check out Adorama.com and get them to scan them - they are good.
Third choice, a digital camera that is bolted firmly on to a tripod (or similar device) with bright but indirect light coming from all directions.

Your return at this juncture could totally fuck up the "voting off the island" process.
Nice. Timing.

the woman was charged on second-degree harassment and breach of peace and released on $2,500 bond.
see if you fuck with people's lives on the internets that could be a problem.

If you're threatening anyone on this board with prosecution or any other legal action, get the fuck out of here and never ever return.
