Good day here.

Noticed the beer comment up above. My suggestion: Waterloo Dark. Lots of German immigrants in K/W, and they know how to make beer. The beer is really the only good reason for Quebec to remain part of Canada; I'd hate to see import taxes on some of the beers when I'm there.
you don't work in Kitchner/Waterloo do you?

No, I'm in the states. But it's a nice place to visit.

Bi-Annual Post

I thought it was time for my bi-annual post here.

What do you guys think of inviting Mexico to join the Canada board, a sort of NAFTA Board?

The Tragically Hip will be releasing their new album soon. I figured this was worth sharing.

For a country that's lucky enough to have a two-ocean coastline

You people sure need to pick up on your submarining skills. Put down the beer and hockey sticks for a bit and pick up the submarine manual, will ya?

Geezus H. You've had the thing for 4 days and its already managed to catch fire. Sorry, I don't remember it being prone to fires when the British were driving.

And Kerry wants these guys in Iraq?

Please note that Canada has a three-ocean coastline.

Well, we went to Afghanistan but you all managed to kill a few of us, so I'm not so sure we want to go to Iraq. All that aside and as for the sub, I think the Canadian government is just buying faulty subs from the British. Happened in 2002 - one of the subs bought from the British could only dive to 3/4 depth. I think there are problems, but don't blame the armed forces, blame the government's lack of due diligence.

That guy in Afghanistan was from Illinois. They don't get guns as children, so they don't always turn out to be such great fighter pilots as adults. As an example, O'Hare airport is named after one who got shot down. Anyway, he never apologized, but I will. I am sorry about what happened, and everyone else I know in Illinois is too. It might have been based on a long simmering grudge, as addressed below.

And far be it from me to criticize your military. Americans well remember Dieppe, Ned Flander's Field, the Ft. Dearborn Massacre, and the battle of Ft. Wilderness. Y'all were on the right side at least half of the time, but your naked Christmas Eve agression towards Chicago and Detroit in the not-so-distant past are seared, seared into the memories of the good gun-shunning people of the midwest. Believe me, every time a Canadian visits Chicago its always remember-Ft. Dearborn this, or lets get the Canuck that. I'm just saying, watch your backs when you got the Illinois Air National Guard around. They are gunning for you people. But you didn't hear that from me.

Hmm. I have only ever experienced naked New Years Eve aggression in Chicago, and if I remember correctly, it was pretty well received. But your points are duly noted (and I will take them to the grave).

I will note that I would have deleted the entire post to which I'm responding, but its more than 1440 minutes old or something. I was just kidding, and the post was (obviously) a joke. That said, its not even close to funny now that one of the submariners is reported dead. My condolescences to his family and the entire nation of Canada, which has long been among our most trusted allies. Apologies to anyone who may be offended by the original post in the context of the loss.

Hello

best Canada memory

So Detroit/Windsor have a shared July fireworks festival on the Detroit River. It is always way too crowded on the Detroit side for me to bother going.

A few years back I schedule a talk on Patents for a small business group inChatham (an hour in) then I find out it was fireworks night. So I load up the wife and kids and figure we'll wathc from the Windsor side. The talk was to end about 2 hours before the first BOOM- but several people wanted to talk to me and ask questions, by the time I get out it's only an hour off. As we hit the Windsor outskirts I can hear the initial booms, and I really don't know where to go to have a good view- w/o another idea I keep heading for the Ambassador Bridge- anyway the Bridge is empty, and the fireworks are going off directly to our right and about the height we were at on the bridge. I went about 1 MPH across the bridge and we had the best view in either country.

Fireworks over- I hit customs and was the freeway before anyone else could even get to their car- I did skip dutyfree to beat the mob.

That's the best you can do? Clearly you need to spend more time in Canada.

Apparently Canadians (this may be a Vancouver thing) love to fuck. So Hank is definitely missing out.

I'm curious what the wife and kids did while he was speaking -- take notes?
