Student Arrested After Pilot Uniform Found

A university student from Egypt was ordered held without bond after prosecutors said they found a pilot's uniform, chart of Memphis International Airport and a DVD titled "How an Airline Captain Should Look and Act" in his apartment.

The FBI is investigating whether Mahmoud Maawad, 29, had any connection to terrorists. He is awaiting trial on charges of wire fraud and fraudulent use of a Social Security number.

Maawad, who is in the United States illegally, told the judge during a hearing Thursday that he is studying science and economics at the University of Memphis.

Maawad had ordered $3,000 in aviation materials, including DVDs titled "Ups and Downs of Takeoffs and Landings,""Airplane Talk,""Mental Math for Pilots" and "Mastering GPS Flying," FBI agent Thad Gulczynski testified.

Late 20s.....male......arab/muslim.....illegally in the US.....fraudulent IDs.....airline pilot self study materials........

This seems odd. Why is the FBI targetting this guy? Are there not grandmothers of swedish descent out there plotting against this nation to search?

I agree, and agree now only with my amended amendment. You'd definitely want a minimum number. And you'd, I suppose, have to draft it in some way so that it has to be a) consistent and b) not retroactive. So, they can 't appoint one guy for 8 years and another for 20. And once appointed, the term could not be reduced (although it could for subsequent appointments.)

I'd bake the time period into the amendment itself, so that there was no opportunity for funny business, but I agree that it would not be retroactive.

Profusely - but frankly, my vote should not have counted. I went to college out of state and voted absentee, and there is no doubt in my mind that I was fucked up out of my mind when I punched the chad for Billy Boy. I have a hazy recollection of eating a bag of shrooms, doing a keg stand, and smoking a bowl in my apartment, when some hippy (who had provided the bag and the bud) saw my beer stained absentee ballot on the stem infested coffee table and said, "don't you want to vote man"? To which I said, "Sure, pick whomever you like, just refill the bowl - tool."
