That actually would work. But I might become too festive for my desk chair.
ETA pretending to listen and interjecting "oh yes" "I agree" etc. is a bad move if you are with a woman whose IQ is higher than her shoe size. Doing it in a funny way, though, may make her laugh.

There is no thought process behind the behavior. The most honest and rational woman will tell you that the most emotional of her behaviors - like the most emotional of males' behaviors - occurs during a temporary vacation from sanity or rational thought. It took me aout ten relationships and nearly as many years until an honest woman told me "You don't get it, do you? The emotion thing is not logical, and I can't control it sometimes when it happens." She, being clinically trained in medicine, was frustrated by the "emotional" thing. She could actually feel it coming on and got mad when it would fuck with her ability to think rationally. She and I agreed that I could "out" her when she was acting nuts, which was rare, but did happen, and she'd consciously try to avoid getting irrational. So far its worked.
Now me, on the other hand... I gotta see a fucking psychiatrist...

THIS is the cheapest way off the emotional rollercoaster. Make her laugh and you'll usually kill whatever emotional horseshit was going on...

You could agree to have her tell you if she's just bitching to bitch (venting), or if she's really serious. I'm assuming (ass, you, me) that you are dating someone intelligent enough and self-aware enough to recognize the difference.
God knows, you are moody as fuck.
To the extent this is on a monthly cycle, you could (for your own edification) analogize to how your behavior is affected when your hormones are whipped into a frenzy. Are your thoughts and perceptions substantively different? Do you have to go through an extra level of thought to determine rational behavior ("If I weren't hornier than an elephant's tusk, would I be reacting the same way?")? It's not dissimilar.

Yes, but it works better than grunting, and, let's face it, these are probably women in their late thirties who don't have a lot of alternatives. At least he's clean, right?

Yeah. That's just insane, isn't it? There's never any reason behind someone being sad or angry or happy or whatever. These are just phenomenon that occur without any outside influence whatsoever.

Just make sure you make her laugh. This approach sometimes works in the opposite direction if you fail to make her laugh. Or so I've heard . . .

If he can't carry on a conversation, he should skip it and occupy his mouth with other things. Orgasms work as well (if not better) than laughter for changing a mood.
rp, am I correct in thinking that the people spewing this crap are married? another checkmark in the "single" column.

2. Doing or saying something that would usually make her laugh, but b/c of the mood does not, probably will make things worse.

That is the most insightful thing you have ever said. It's totally true for me. Make me laugh and all is fine in the world.
