Grey Album, Passion, Leagl's Dates
Grey: TM, Thanks for the recommendation. It's interesting (and I mean that in a good way, not the Minnesota subtle slam way). Besides the fact that I really like melody, I have a problem with rap: I can't listen fast enough to follow the words. (My inability to follow the words is also a problem with pop and rock but and without melody the words are pretty much the whole purpose for listening to rap.) I have to concentrate really hard to get even 80% of the words and that's a lot more concentration than I usually give to popular music.
ETA: Maybe I'm better off NOT following most of the words.
Passion: I'm definitely going to see it but not tomorrow night. I want to go to it with people I know so I can talk about it after. I saw a trailer for it in the theater last weekend and the production values look good.
So Leagl, you're making out in parking lots already? Little hussy. Is this with the Virgin Kisser or with Date #2 or 3???

Agreed. What's her mom's maiden name? Guessing it doesn't end in a vowel.

For two hours, with only an occasional pause or gentle flashback, we watch, stupefied, as a handsome, strapping, at times half-naked young man (James Caviezel) is slowly tortured to death. Gibson is so thoroughly fixated on the scourging and crushing of Christ, and so meagrely involved in the spiritual meanings of the final hours, that he falls in danger of altering Jesus’ message of love into one of hate.

Did anyone else find his need to recite that James Caviezel is strapping and half naked a bit ... squicky?
BR(David Denby has his head up his ass as a general rule, so this is a pretty strong "see" reccomendation in my book)C

Agree with the premise but not the conclusion. Y'all let me know whether it's worth seeing. So far I can think of other ways I'd rather spend $9, like buying a used English/Aramaic dictionary.

No, I think it's b/c she's both hot and cute, a combination that doesn't occur too often. It's usually one or the other. The cuteness makes her more approachable and less model-like. That's why you THINK you might run into her on the street.
|
Yes, the cute factor is attractive on her (I am usually turned off by exclusively "cute" girls).* But I think its the smile and the fact that she's not too made up. You could meet her. She'd be the "incredible chick from (office, work, school)," but still within reach, or at least technically available. And she probably looks IRL nearly as good as she does on screen. Simply put, I know some chicks in her category.
*Cute is often a step from "perky" and "full of life." Perky and bubbly cute people are like perky little dogs. They're best muzzled, or squashed by a UPS truck.

James Caviezel was absofuckinglutely gorgeous in The Thin Red Line. I hated the movie but actually found myself salivating when he was on screen.
I'd like to see James Caviezel "strapping and half naked" with every fiber of my being.
That said, there is no way I am going to see this movie.

Whereas you might run into the Skeletor-chick on your ordinary chores.
Like taking out the garbage. She's probably rooting through the cans looking for some FOOD.

so to speak.
I'm keyed up for the news coverage early next week of the outraged, OUTRAGED, church group leaders who took their young minions to the matinee showings, and left astounded by the extensive violence. What has Hollywood done to our youth!
|
There will be no such outrage. The Christian right is not offended by hours of graphic (in slow-motion with close-ups) violence. They are offended by Janet Jackson's nipple. (As are we all, but that's another issue)
Damn, Bilmore beat me to it.

Her facial features are sort of odd. Some people would like that I'm sure, but I'm not one of them. Her eyes are far apart and her forehead is big, giving her a sort of alien-like look. But to each his/her own. My guess is that she doesn't care what I think.
I think she got famous off of her rack.
