As for me, I am only listening to mash ups of d'n'b remixes of Australian aboriginal music with Swedish gangsta rap death metal.
Whereas I think A+B mashups are played out and prefer the sonic collage method favored by DJ Earworm. After all, even JC Penney is using mashups in their commericals.

But the blasting show tunes at 8AM Sunday is not for everyone.

My gay neighbors are the owner of a high-end gardening or outdoor decor shop, and a music teacher, respectively. Other than the 5 yapping mini dachsunds, I never see them. And though the outdoor space is perfect (subtle, varied, natural), for sheer overwrought suburban-style perfection they are overshadowed by my expensive next door neighbors who have everything done for them. The next-door neighbors on the other side are a doctor/wife who also have everything done for them (except he whips out the chainsaw once or less a year), but they've also gone for that more natural, prairie look so it's less intimidating.

Do you know these people: Medeski, Scofield, Martin, and Wood? Some kind of funk jazz fusion groovy something, I think. Someone asked me to go to one of their shows, but if it's a long organ jam, I will hate it. Ooh, I see on a review that one of their songs is jazz fused with Brasilian Tropicalia, so there you go. Anyone know them or have opinions?

Not Stuck Up, Just Shy

This morning on Today Al Roker admitted to hating holiday parties because he is not good at mingling, that he gets "nervous."

And to think how mean you all were to him, when in truth, he was dying inside.

Medeski Martin and Wood are what my deadhead friends graduated to after they got turned on to Jimmy Smith, Lou Donaldson, Wes Montgomery and all four of the "Blue Break Beats" compilations. It's high-quality jazz noodling, with just a touch of white-boy funk. Nothing wrong with it but it never did it for me.

PS - no idea when Scofield got mixed up with this, but for what it's worth he is an amazing jazz guitarist.

MM&W started off as more jazz-oriented and then started drifting toward the jam band scene after they kind of accidently got adopted by all the Phish-heads. Some of their earlier stuff is pretty good. Scofield is great, although he can be a bit cheesy at times. But generally a respected jazz musician (I have seen him at the Dakota a number of times). He has been all over the place in his career, from power trio to atmospheric jazz to jammy jazz jams. He has collaborated with MM&W in the past, but this is the first time I have seen him listed as a member. I was going to go check them out, mostly because I like Scofield, but I have a conflict that night.
