Actually, it did not bother me. In fact, it showed some encouraging signs of mental discipline. And it is not like a bunch of lawyers can complain about geekery.
Speaking of which, I have been seeing these "Republicans for Voldemort" bumper stickers. I realize I should probably post this on the Politics Board, or maybe the Harry Potter Board. But the former will not accept me, and I refuse to acknowledge the existence of the latter. Anyhoo, I had to look up who Voldemort is. Please, please tell me there is some wittier, more nuanced, and less horrifyingly nerdy joke going on here than, "Oh yeah, well the Republicans are so evil that they would probably vote for a supremely wicked fictional villain from wildly popular chidren's books."

(1) Although we are intimidated by you, we on the Politics Board accept you.
(2) I saw a "Republicans for Voldemort" sticker the other day on a car with two bumper stickers proclaiming that their kids are home-schooled. I'm not sure which is less likely: a Republican for Voldemort, or a lefty home-schooler.

How does one proclaim this fact?
"My child is an honor roll student at Smith's Home School"?

Now, Ty's protestations aside, you just tell me that this hippie-dippie homeschooling sticker isn't designed to fit across the back of some lefty's faded, rusted VW Eurovan together with something like:

"My child is the student of the month every month -- we home-school"
or something like that.

Explosion
Anyone at Davis Polk or Simpson Thacher and have to run like heck to escape the steam pipe explosion?
Instinct told me to leave slightly early I caught one of the last trains out before they shut the whole thing down.

This is a great message, if you want your kid's whole world to be his or her house.

If there is one thing about which I am almost completely certain, it is that you do not possess some instinct that assists you in avoiding urban steam pipe explosions. I am almost as certain that you do not possess any instinct that helps you in avoiding mass transit shutdowns. I am more inclined to believe that you coincidentally left early because you are lazy.

Not true.
Flash rains flooded the tracks that morning, causing delays on LIRR and Metro North. I was skittish already and took the initiative to leave early. And by early I mean 10 mins early, big whoop.

I think, as a general proposition, that bumper stickers are dumb.
I admit to having a sticker on my car (about 2 inches square) that says "I am made of poison". People ask me all the time what it means, but I have no idea.
