I love this:

""In making the partner vote announcement, Managing Partner George Davitt said, “A law firm such as ours, although prominent, profitable and filled with talented lawyers is – like any professional services organization – knit of a fabric that, if stretched too thin, can unravel.”"

Yo, chill out with the patting yourself on the back already. Your fucking law firm just failed spectacularly. Enough with the "prominent, profitable and filled with (fewer than we used to have) talented lawyers."

Goodwin

Article about Goodwin MP, Regina Pisa. I didn't realize Goodwin had snapped up 60 THT attorneys. Think we should ask her to post her risotto recipe on the food thread?

Most of the attorneys are going to either Goodwin or Proskauer - about the same number of partners to each from what I hear, more associates to Goodwin. Goodwin is apparently throwing around some huge incentives and sign-on bonuses.

My impression -- Choate gets a bunch of dusty old-guarders and K&L gets a handful of IP lawyers, probably in each case self-sustaining groups without too many associates, though you always worry about old-guarders that they've become accustomed to compensation in excess of production just because of their longevity.

The rest of the Testa folks split among Piper, Greenburg, Edwards & Angell, Wilmer, many others. Big question is will the biggest winners be those who didn't play or those who went all out. Seems like at least some of the Testa work is finding homes away from the Testa partners. But no one will really know for a year or two how the groups are working out.

It sounds like almost all the attorneys will end up with jobs - anyone hearing differently?

Does he, or doesn't he?

Lobel sues the funnies. Isn't this one of those dirty little Boston secrets that no one talks about? I've heard rumors about Lobel being drunk on air for years. He does come across as somewhat tipsy at times.

I've seen him in public on many occassions and sat and talked to him at charity events and would be very surprised if he were drinking on air. He's a very down-to-earth, nice guy, goes out of his way regularly for lots of people (including people he's just started talking with on the street or at the kids playground), and seems to hardly touch the stuff. He also has young kids, and I'll bet he's riled about the inevitable kids-get-shit that will happen from this strip.

Can't his wackiness be explained simply by the fact that he's a wacky guy?

Is letterman drunk on stage? What about warner wolf, len berman, george michael?

He's been wacky since he started--has it gotten worse lately (don't see the boston sports much here in DC)?

I think that's right, it's his normal state of being. And I don't think it's changed over time.
