Can't Go That Fast

That is exactly what I tried to tell the officer. If I had been going 55 in a 45, then my ancient diesel Rabbit's engine would have been roaring like a jet in take-off. He still wrote the ticket. Jerk.

True. I hauled a big wing chair (not like a wingnut) home from an estate sale in mine. And it got great mileage but finally gave up the ghost. But it was a bad car chose for Minnesota winters. Diesel fuel gets like gelatin if you aren't careful.

Regarding the war chant -- sure it is silly, but people enjoy group participation stuff. It isn't any sillier than those stupid "terrible towels" and bangy stick thingies along with the plethora of other gimmicks that sports teams use. If you give me your address I will be happy to send you the 10,000 foam tomahawks that I have been handed at the gate this year alone.
Thanks for last night. I get to say I told you so to so many people now.

But please change your mind about the Sox. I'm just not ready for hell to freeze over as I don't really like the cold so much.

And yes the war chant is worse than any other gimmicky thing. Ask anyone. It's every 5 minutes and it's annoying. Towels don't annoy.

And Confidential to Paigow - I guess you haven't noticed, but lots and lots of women talk about sports - or do you just walk away when you hear "killer D?" Women love sports because women love athletes - get it? Or at least just watching guys in tight pants. If you watched more sports, you would see what I mean. If you're going to watch the Yanks, see how nice those pants fit that Jeter guy.

I kept on listening, and by the end I was jumping and screaming around the kitchen, much like my brother and I had done a couple of years previous when Ben Johnson won the 100m at 1:30 a.m one September morning, thus waking up the rest of the house.
Must you rub this in??? I mean God, man, have some compassion. Sure it was 11 years ago. 11 years?? Fuck. And sure I've since lost the whole TEAM after dedicating 22 years of fandom to them. But, it's still a raw wound.

Yeah, I saw that. Its a bullshit name. But so is Jaden. Totally exemplary of the diff between Sampras and Agassi. THe Sampras kid is named "Christian" which is a lovely, normal first name. The Agassi kids are Jiz and Jaden. Who knows, maybe they are Kraut names but I dont think so.

Which is another thing I am Not Amused by. This trend to name kids last names or made up names in order to make them sound waspy or special. Hello, this is my son, Zander Taylor Montgomery Cohen. Its like what Coco Chanel said, as quoted by SIgorney Weaver in Working Gir as paraphrased by mel, if you wear jewelry, they notice the jewlry, but if you wear a simple dress, they notice the woman.

As I was looking for info on the end of last night's game, I came across this:

Why is this woman not on the sidelines instead of LG?
My new favorite ESPN babe is the pregnant woman whose name I just forgot who does the Monday night Countdown. She interviews a single player at his house or, last night, Brian Kelly at a local movie theater. She's a beautiful woman, but very, very pregnant so she gets these great unguarded interviews.

After she delivers, she should get the sideline gig.

Is it Jiz or Jaz? If it's Jiz I am very disturbed.

That's IT!! It was Kay Jewelers!! The cheeseball jewelry given away as prizes on game shows!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

That was driving me crazy -- I even tried a google search, but my google-fu is not really up to snuff.

This friend of my uncle, an engineer, was driving uphill on I-90 in Idaho in an old pick-up with a load of metal in the back, and a cop ticketed him for going 80. He was outraged, and certain that the cop's radar was picking up a car going downhill on the other side of the highway, so he did a ton of empirical work to prove that his engine, with that load and that grade, couldn't get the truck going 80.

Judge just didn't even want to hear it. So sad.

Disturbing

This story is disturbing on so many levels...
Former child star Macaulay Culkin had to buy cigarettes for Marilyn Manson when the two were working together on “Party Animal” and the shock rocker couldn’t produce any identification. “We went to a liquor store and the lady asked us for IDs, which was amazing because they didn’t recognize either of us,” the 34-year-old Manson told the Brit magazine FHM. “I didn’t have any ID so he had to buy the cigarettes. Virginia Slims lights.”

Virginia Slims? What man smokes Virginia Slims?

Link to madness

Paigow:

I have a question...does everyone in here look and sound like someone to you? Just curious.

BTW, you, in my mind, look and sound like Jami Gertz in Less than Zero except for sometimes when you look and sound like Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction.

I wouldn't have minded that - that sounds interesting, at least. My gripe was with the people who pled not guilty, got a trial date, and then, at trial, testified, as their complete defense, that their vehicle wouldn't go 80.
