Really? All the ones I've dealt with reuse them every so often (2 weeks or so) because it's too costly to keep buying new ones. They're all for catastrophic recovery, not for rooting out old emails.
That's what I thought as well.

Apropos of our little oldskool trip down memory lane, I was at Shea last night to see the Mets lose, and to suffer in the stultifying heat. The weather was like 1977, the Mets were like 1987 and I drank beers like it was 1997.

Actually fashion-related

Apropos of Seinfeld, am I the only one surprised to learn that J. Peterman is still in business?

http://jpeterman.com/default.asp

(And no, I didn't think the Urban Sombrero put them out of business.)

Number One: Have I committed ecosystem homicide by bringing home a turtle that I found in the road so my son could play with it for a while? I plan to return it to a river across the street when he's done playing with Turtley Turtwig (that's our new friend's name).

Number Two: (and this, as far as you know, is hypothetical of course) Say you were to have some self-portrait, um... art photos that, while great fun to look at, are not exactly meant for eyes other than the subjects'. Is there a way to get such photos directly from your digital camera to some other medium without storing it eternally on your computer?
I've got an idea! Find a way to send them to me without using your computer and I can help you out! Or maybe I'll figure something out next time I am in town. Just don't tell me that the photos are of you and the turtle!

hahahhahahahhahahhahahahhahah!!!!!!! lol

Usually the backups are on tapes. Until very recently (when the new Rules of Civil Procedure came out in December), most IT security people just kept the tapes in perpetuity and/or until they ran out of room. Hopefully, nowadays everyone has them on a regular rotation, but you never know. Especially with lawfirms.

Depending on your firm's security and server setup, every single thing you do using the server will be logged, including your internet activity. The server logs will be also backed up on the tapes. 99.9 percent of the time, no one has a reason to really look at those log files and tapes unless there's some suspicion of something funky going on. But, you're not going to ever totally erase yourself if your computer was hooked up to a server.

Moral of the story: be nice to the IT people (and Anne Elk).

F-f-f-f-f-f f-f-f-f-fuuuuuuuuck.

I got the catalogue yesterday and was just as shocked.

I think I got drunk and bought something called Walt Whitman pants.

Maybe it was Thoreau.

And just like the striving upwardly mobile, you were never able to come.

Throwing up tequila on her does not count.

But then, can anyone come from a titty fuck? I'll call a buddy in bankruptcy and another with a trust fund and see if it works for them.

That's kind of a 180 from last week.

I failed to mention that my fortune cookie last week told me that "You would make a good lawyer."

(I suspect that's targeted to the DC Chinese Food market)

Sadly, I've had rooms full of backup tapes to deal with because someone thought that they were supposed to be kept forever.

I'm standing on my head. It's kind of embarrasing because I am commando and wearing a dress, but such is my wont.
