I don't want religion taught. But to definitively say that our universe was created by the big-bank/evolution is not beyond debate. Does anybody really have a problem with a discussion where both views are laid out, assuming we could trust the teachers?
This answers the "how we are hear question." I think I agree with most of you that the "why" question should be reserved to the home/church/temple/mosk.

Burger, all that's left to do is figure out which one of us is going to be President and Vice President. Actually, I need a couple of years to reach the 35 year old requirement, so I'll have to take on a different position, but our platform is beautiful!

It appears that, to get this done on the proper timetable, many of the tough questions were postponed to the "real" constitution process next year. I think that undermines a lot of the momentousness in the eyes of those who are anxiously awaiting a democracy to rise from the ashes in that country.
Also I think many Iraqi observers will not see their country as free until the US troops leave. The interim charter actually calls for the US forces to be the ultimate authority in Iraq for a longer period than had been expected before the charter was drafted.
And no this is not an argument that we should get out of there before the proper time. If anything, I think we're rushing this interim charter process.

Vochers are for allowing inner city children to learn how to read, write, and do arithemtic, which they by and large aren't able to learn in inner city public schools. Getting taught religion is the price that they have pay for to get a decent education in a safe environment.

I was thinking that, if the next phase isn't rushed, this was well-timed, as it starts the perception of local rule sooner rather than later, even though very little is actually decided at this point. It takes it more out of the "occupation" stage when they start doing things like establishing constitutions, even temporary ones.

I am shocked to learn there is gambling in this establishment!
I am sure there is a perfectly sound distinction to be drawn between this and the Clinton administration's heinous, shameful abuse of access to the White House.

Most of the non-public schools around here (those which would be made available through vouchers) have no religious affiliation or content. The perception that this is religion-driven is, at least in part, incorrect.

Clinton actually charged people to sleep there. Bush is just inviting his fund raisers and friends to sleep there. Get it?

I think that is unusual. In Ohio and most of the other places that have tried vouchers, the voucher schools are primarily religious. The reason is that the vouchers are not for large amounts of money and the kids only get access to schools that are partially subsidized by a religious organization.
The vouchers are usually for about how much? Isn't it only about $2-3k? That will generally only cover the cost of a church-subsidized school.

If by capitalist you mean he saw an opportunity to make money by renting out the Lincoln bedroom, then yes.
I see a distinction between inviting your friends and campaign fund raisers to sleep over at the white house and raising campaign funds by charging someone to sleep in the Lincoln bedroom.
