I guess I was a little surprised by the outcome, though I think Carrie will be a better fit post-Idol world of singing the anthem at sporting events and Very Special Christmas albums. I think Bo has a career after this, but what? It's hard to have rocker cred after AI. Does he join a band, and, if so, is he just another bandmember or is it Bo and the Attican Bedshitters? Does he go to Vegas and do covers? str8?

in preparing your next ranking consider whether this sock isn't being intentionally stupid. Keep in mind that em supposedly has 2 college degrees- does that jibe with the apparent IQ of the poster?

This may well be a nuisance sock put out to save one of the other dumber posters from being nailed as dumbest.

Who was 2nd?

wasn't he already part of TV Funhouse, or some HBO comedy show?

I assume CBS plays deus ex machina as well. Maybe the pilot screwed up and was told to take both contestants, and mistakenly pulled the gate away. (I'm still not convinced that Colin and Christie--the intense couple on the 5th season-- couldn't make the flight that would have put them 24 hours ahead of everyone on the way to New Zealand (or whereever)

Dug up the article I saw. Uchenna and Joyce have a pretty good response . . .

Cry me a river

From Overheard in New York - I find the Hobo's response surprising.
Quote:
Not As Rough As Being Covered in Body Lice
Hobo: Yo, yo, you think you got problems? I'm homeless! I ain't got no money, I ain't got no food, I'm hungry! I ain't got nothin. You think you got problems? Yo, what's your problem?
Guy: I'm in law school, I have finals.
Hobo: Sorry, that's rough.

I don't think so. There are specific laws governing the interference with these types of game shows. Tampering with the game this way, as opposed to clever editing seems way too risky to me for such a limited payoff.

Also, everything they do is most likely mapped out and scheduled way before the show begins (barring catastrophe). They test each of the legs out with employees of the show long before the contestants get involved. They know who will be where, when and they most likely had it set up so that all three teams would be on that flight for the last leg. Unfortunately, they didn't account for Uchenna's team being the worst beggars ever and Kelly's team not knowing how to drive to the airport. Hell, the last few challenges were intentionally super-easy (cut onions, hit a golf ball 140 yards, find a store) that they probably thought there was no way there wouldn't be a mad dash to the finish line).

What is more likely (to me, at least) is one of the following: (i) the flight was going to be slightly delayed in taking off or the pilot knew s/he had enough in-flight make up time that s/he decided to take the extra passenger since it wouldn't affect the arrival time, (ii) an American Airline exec, on their own (with full knowledge of when the racers would arrive on the last leg, I'm sure), decided to increase their advertising (and air) time by agreeing to open the door when they otherwise wouldn't or (iii) the pilot really didn't like Rob and Amber.

I'm fine with all three of those. And if it's (iii), Rob should shut the fuck up because he got on another flight at an earlier point in the race after the door had closed on him. He seems to have a selective memory when it comes to conspiracy theories.

Smigel, the guy behind the dog, did TV Funhouse and Comic appeared on Conan O'Brien. But he and the dog should have their own half hour show, going around insulting people. That's why I said I would give him his own show.

I completely agree with this. The fact that he would even complain about it in the first place shows that he has entitlement issues that wouldn't be reduced any by handing him another $1 million. Burger, I liked that article. Amazing he can't see his own hypocrisy. Hopefully someone has pointed it out to him by now.

I was a little surprised, but not shocked. I mean, the songs they picked so clearly favored Carrie! Are you trying to tell me they couldn't possibly have given one of the songs a slightly stronger rock flavor to even the playing field? Feh. Carrie is way more easily marketable, yes, but everything she sang on Tuesday was just slightly sharp the whole way through. Really grated on the ears.

I did think they did a better job of scripting the finale show this time--less singing by the two finalists was a good thing. Among the runnerups, Constantine clearly stood out--he can really wail--but my favorite moment was definitely the surprise appearance by David Hasselhoff. Most of the "real-life idols" were really just has-beens (Kenny G?!?!?), and some of the matchups were a real stretch.

But anyway. Now that all my shows have ended for the summer, maybe I can get some of my back reading done. At least until they start running the beginning of Veronica Mars, which I missed. Or they start the new season of Nip/Tuck.

Viggo

I forget who has a thing for Viggo Mortenson here, but I do have a potential cure for that affliction. Particularly if you belong to the NFH One Bad Picture school of thought. So here it is. I'm including spoiler space for those who can't bear the thought of a bad Viggo picture. Start scrolling fast... Now!

My guy is Orlando Bloom. Maybe that's what you were thinking. Elves are cooler. And Viggo looked like absolute crap in the Hidalgo promo pics.

I had a thing for Michael Madsen until this appeared. I guess I liked him about 10 years ago. Has not. aged. well.
