I saw a childhood friend over Thanksgiving. She recalled how once, when my family visited hers, I complained that I had a cigarette jingle in my head for the whole trip there. I didn't know what she was talking about at first. Then she recited the jingle to me. It's been back, on and off, in my head ever since.

As to growing exotic shit....he grows castor beans which apparently have only recently come off a banned plants list. They're highly toxic and I think they make ricin from the seeds.

His partner is in real estate and is like the gay Angie's List.
Could you ask him how he'd grow lilacs or peonies if he were in South Florida, please? I miss both of these plants so, so much.

True story. While I was in marriage counseling with my now-ex, he announced triumphantly that he KNEW what my favorite flowers were. When asked, he announced with a flourish "Lilies and pereniums."

Uh.... no.

Finest on earth.
This is my country, land of my birth.
I pledge thee my allegiance,
America, the bold,
cause this is my country to have and to hold.

Goddamn you.

Keep those lilies fresh in a nice perineal soak.

Maybe he's caught a whiff of 'em. (Or maybe not. I can't be sure.)

I don't know flowers, so pereniums, perennials. Whatever. But the guy remembered the first letter to the name of each of your favorite flowers. That's gotta be worth something.

My mom's been trying to grow peonies in Texas for 35 years. So far, no luck.

I apologize profusely. I get you and me (or is it "you and I"?) and notcasesensitive confused all the time.

But I would like to hear the history again. Heck, I'm a sucker for holiday traditions.

They've a lovely aroma. A touch of blue cheese, with a hint of savage musk.

You might want to take a walk down memory lane...
