I tell you this. In ten years of practice and having worked in 5 different areas of law and with lawyers from huge firms down to the lowest PI bottom feeders, on the balance, with the exception of the people here, who are the exception to the rule in the industry, generally I'd talk to a gas station attendant over a lawyer every day of the week.
Seb, be honest were you like the lone atty when waiting for a brief to drop or a deal to close or an application to be filed that was hanging out on the credenza with the secretaries and paras and file clerks and everyone [staff] thought was cool-as-shit?

My money says "yes"

Good strategy to try to up the friend count. There's $500 on the line.

i heard for 50 bucks you'd do way more than just claim to be a friend. might be worth the investment to her.

I'm the dumbest lawyer of all time. I actually thought working hard would be a good career move.

ETA: There was also the issue of my bad case strategy and attitude. That didn't help either.

I just turned a lot of OT and my bonus is dropping soon. I don't want/need the money.

I told you we should wait until we had five firm commits. Now those PMs we sent BnB are just hanging out there and Hank is holding out for $125.

So I was listening to Communist Radio the other day, and in between Antique Roadshow: Valuing Che Guevara's Hair and Marxism: Never Done Correctly? Try Never TRIED Correctly!, I listened to Terry Gross interview Steve Carrell.

Among other things, Terry asked Steve to describe Michael Scott. Steve explained that Michael Scott "is not a bad guy -- his heart is in the right place -- but he has an enormous emotional blind spot. He is completely incapable of understanding how other people perceive him, and is in total denial about it when reality creeps in. If he ever really understood what he was like, and how other people percieve him, his head would explode."

In every kind of environment, explained Steve, you've got some folks who want to try so hard to be cool to others, but simply aren't. And the harder you try, the worse it becomes.

This is Michael Scott. And every work environment has one. Ricky Gervais once told Steve around the time that the NBC version of the show got started, that if you look around and don't see a Michael Scott, YOU are Michael Scott.

Uh, carry on.

I got $50 from B&B to not be ppnyc's friend, PLUS I'll be able to look at myself in the morning. I know you stopped doing that a few years back anyway, so no worries there.
