  But then the event was held (an audio of the 50-minute long event can be heard online) and reality set in. Estimates vary. The Arizona Republic counted 250 in attendance, the police 400. The number of Muslims, I heard, was between 30 and 100 persons. Most participants were not Muslim but (the Arizona Republic recounts) “people like Michael Fischer, 18, of Glendale, who wanted to denounce the stereotyping of Muslims; and Grace Clark of Apache Junction, who wanted to promote peace.” One correspondent of mine judged the event “a total disaster.”

Who would be so stupid as to take pictures like these people who were caught did?

Did you see the picture of the british soldier peeing on a prisoner? Someone actually took a picture of that. Unbelievably stupid.

Those of you expressing shock at the degrading treatment of Iraqui prisioners by 20 year old US and British soldiers, know i do not find you un-american. I do find Shape Shifter un-American -he's Canadian- but other wise youcan certainly ask the question.

the prisioners, is it not likely they are these guerillas who are planting bombs and killing friends of these young men? I don't buy into their being anything other than a delayed military tactic- but I don't think these troops look at it that way. Here we all are posting on some waste of time page while making 6 figures, while these kids are seeing their friends killed by non-regular troops. might I take a pee on them if i were 20 and in Iraqui? thats a hypo I don't need to answer.

I agree with you that these prisoners weren't tortured. However, why did they take pictures. That was so fucking stupid.

The issue about the pictures is that it has inflamed Iraqis. They are being shown on Al jizm and this will not help those on the front lines. I don't give a crap about Iraqis being pissed off except to the extent that it means more militant resistance to the coalition troops and therefore, more endangerment to the troops. They did their buddies no favors by taking pictures of this hooliganism.

On the age, the guy in the picture with the moustash, I believe that he is a reservist in his 30's who is a prison guard back in the states if I am remembering correctly. I don't know about the woman in the pictures (I think she was a woman).
