Are you looking for mattress recommendations or frame/headboard/footboard? If the latter, do you like contemporary or traditional? Do you want a high footboard, or are you or your sleeping companions tall enough that one would get in the way? Dark wood? Light wood? Metal?

not mattress, actual bed. I like dark wood. I like both contemporary and traditional, except I am not into frou-frou. I suppose I prefer contemporary or sort of an Asian feel. High footboard is not really my cup of tea.

now that Thurgreed and even Flower have started posting on politics, maybe they'll want to help the party of their choice in real life...

www.pornforprogress.com sells a 4 scence hard core video of actors playing Bush administration and friends (Donald Cumsfeld, etc.). a portion of the proceeds goes to the Kerry campaign.

It's Halloween season. How many of these are we going to see?

Why do people say that Halloween is for the kids, when really, it's a reason for adults to get drunk and dress up?

I totally know a guy who has that sofa! He's been president of the Twin Cities used Vespa club since 1992, wears Buddy Holly glasses, and is in a Rockabilly group called "Shoot from the Hipster."

Hopefully, not many.

I understand the attraction of leather and lots of displayed skin, but that particular outfit just looks stupid to me.

I'm partial to something like this. Pro: no high footboard. Con: no slats or knobs or posts for the tying up stuff (hi, mmmm!)

It's the shoes that ruin it. That puss needs boots.

The party of my choice? Why do you think I am a Democrat? Is it the whole cheeba thing?

I'm done with the politics board. I gave it my best shot, got nowhere, and am now retired.

Speaking of SportsCenter, have you seen Scott Van Pelt and had new look lately? Yikes! Some people just shouldn't do the Yul Brenner look...

Any parameters in terms of style? The list I posted for TM last week would work for beds as well, but they're mainly modern designers. If you're looking for arts and crafts, that may not be your best bet. Also, I'm a fan of using interesting headboards with a simple frame or platform. I've seen a lot of cool headboards made out of old metal gates or wooden doors. My queen bed is a simple wrought iron affair that I bought at an antique festival. I aged it a bit with paint.

You could start at www.drw.com, and check out www.westelm.com also.

ETA: Given your later parameters (wood, asian-y, no major footboard) and desire not to pay a lot, you might want to check out this bed over at West Elm. It's $500 for a queen, which I don't think is bad at all. They have a simpler wooden frame, which they are aiming to sell with their headboards, for $230. I can't imagine you'd find much new furniture cheaper, except maybe at Ikea. I have these coffee tables in chocolate and I am not disappointed.

WTF happened to Chambers, the bedding (and bedroom furniture) division of Williams-Sonoma? There was a bed called like Soho or something that I think Gwinky might have liked. Asian-y. WSHome does not have the same furniture, but the Santa Monica or Westport on pages 26-27 of http://www.wshome.com/catalog/index.asp?nv=nav_ecatalog might work

Mrs. dL and I went to a Lay-z-boy for the first time in our lives specifically to see that sofa. While we didn't end up buying it (it's too small for what we are looking for) we cam away impressed with both the design and the fabrication.
