Oh, god, yes. But Bush is such a wimp about things like that. Look how long he kept Powell. Plus, if he lived by that standard, at least half of State would be gone, so maybe it's unworkable.

But you're not addressing the point--there are remedies for her misconduct and his that don't involve outing her (if, in fact, that's what happened) or his specific connection to her (which is the same as naming her). Why do it the way they did?

The standard tale seems to revolve around "he gave her name to the public in order to punish Wilson", when I suspect it's more like "he pointed out the connection in order to add one more important fact to the list of reasons why people shouldn't buy Wilson's shit." Should Wilson's entre into that project for specific anti-Bush purposes be off-limits because of the position she holds? That's what I mean about using it as a sword.

We have a factual disagreement as to whether Plame was publicly known to be a CIA agent, and covert, before Novak published the WH's story. I haven't seen anything saying her position was well-known in advance of that.

My Grandfather was the head of the Republican party in Washington State in the 1930s. All the Articles he wrote for the papers focus on the fact that Roosevelt was turning the United State into a Socialist State. My Grandfather also accused him of being soft on Communism (being too nice to the Soviets). My great grandfather was also active in the Republican party (he was a State Senator from Everett Washington and was known as Weyerhauser's man in Olympia) and he wrote articles about Wilson being a socialist and accused Wilson of wanting to reinstitute slavery in the South (to be honest I don't know where that came from).

I think my grandfather and great grandfather, if they were still alive, would agree with Slave on most issues and would consider him a Republican.
