Must be a coincidence, but I have seen more sentences containing the words "Kerry" and "marginalia" in the last few weeks than ever before in my life.

One rule... if you call someone a Nazi or Hitler, w/o card carrying proof, you lose here. We'll let you go this time.*
*I know, I know you all think Bush is Hitler, but here's the problem Hitler had a "solution", and the basic tenant of your argument is that Bush lacks any plan.

You see, that's just it. After April 1945, they stopped carrying those cards. After that, it was always the liberals who carried around cards. (Ahem. Or so I'm told.)
I think either both sides should carry cards, or neither. None of this unilateral disarmament shit, no sir.

Jesse Jackson marches to protest drug sweep
Wednesday, December 17, 2003
NORTH CHARLESTON, South Carolina (AP) -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson led hundreds of marchers carrying signs and chanting slogans ...
"We're going to march again and again and again," Jackson told those who rallied in front of city hall. "They will get bigger and bigger until there is fairness in the land."
|
Man, I hope for his sake that Jesse's been working out. He's fixing to get himself mighty tired, doing all that marching, seeing as how there probably won't be complete (or even relatively complete) fairness in the land until sometime after hell freezes over.
On the other hand, I hope GB2 does have OBL in the bag, October sweeps or not. Unless the news shakes loose less than 48 hours before the election, there'll be plenty of time for the nattering naybobs, granola eaters, and general media jackals to find fault with whatever happens (not that I have anything against any of those people, NTTAWWT).

I realize it's Jesse we're talking about here, but have you seen the video from the Goose Creek Drug Bust Bust of 2003? I only know what I see on Jon Stewart, but the cops burst in first thing in the a.m. with guns drawn and ordered everyone to hit the floor. It looked like a pretty fucking dangerous situation. If the cops had found even a dime bag, we wouldn't be hearing at all about this --- it was only the fact that the dogs didn't find a single whiff of narcotics on 200 bused-in H.S. students (a pretty amazing thing, when you think about it) that got the national media interested.
If a cop ever drew a gun on my kid unprovoked, I'd be seriously pissed. (If my kid provokes the cop, he can go ahead and shoot and I'll further punish the kid later.) I think this principal should be woodshedded for having thought that a bunch of cops with guns drawn posed less of a threat to students' health and safety than any other alternative.

I agree. Totally not called for and IMHO a violation of civil rights due to being overbroad.

you don't have a preteen, do you? I'd seriously love for my kid to learn the listening skills that only a fat cop with the drop on you could convey....

I'm kinda confused about this one. Surface, yeah, sounds like Bull Connor with vids. Bad shit.
But, you read the cops' and school admins' explanations, and it does sort of make sense.
Plus, my last reading indicated that a majority of the minority parent population are defending the move.
I understand what you're saying - the hair on the back of my neck stood up for this one too - but I'm not sure it's as simple as you make it.
(Editing 'cuz I re-read it and missed a big point: ) I'm referring to the bust itself, and the mechanism of the bust, and the racial makeup of the targets. The gun-drawing seems way out of line to me. (And yet, the parents are supporting that, too.))

I have preteens, teens, never-will-be-teens-cuz-I'm-gonna-kill-em's, and I suspect I would eventually regret my unavoidable behavior were I to learn that some community-college-educated cop pulled a gun on my kid without justification.

That's just BS. I grew up in public school in LA. There were busts all the time, but they weren't akin to a 4th ID raid. And they weren't fishing expeditions either. The cops merely came to the class, grabbed the student/suspect, walked him (yes it was always a him) out, searched his person and locker, and took appropriate action.
This is just some stupid fucks who are not conditioned to dealing with these issues, so they overreached.
