True, true, but I don't think Hermes should care for the same reason (I think) that rp doesn't think so. The housewives watching Oprah are not its target market. They may be Coach's target market, but I seriously doubt Hermes gets a lot of sales from Oprahfuckers. Sex and the City product placements? Sure. Word that celebrities are waiting on waiting lists for their bags? Yes. Oprah show? I just don't think so. The women buying these bags are more likely out with the ladies lunching* than sitting on their couches watching Oprah. Wrong demographic.

I'd guess that [assuming no racism showing] this episode helps their US sales. Think how many more people must have been by their website in the last 2 days.

*or, like my friends who have the bags, working their asses off for their six figure paychecks

Right, but as SS pointed out, it's a different market. A Dr. Phil or Suze Orman book costs $20, and watching their shows costs nothing. Plus, people who watch Oprah believe they need to improve themselves and turn to her for tools to do so, so these people are seen as helpers. While she may influence purchasing, I don't think she could influence luxury purchasing via her audience to a degree so great that Hermes should be concerned. That said, she's got a lot of celebrity friends, as she so readily reminds everyone in her promos "MY friend Julia Roberts will be on the show Tuesday! Pictures from my friend John Travolta's birthday party on Wednesday!" So, if Hermes were to lose cachet among celebrities as a result of this, then they might have a problem. But if I were in Hermes PR, and if I were absolutely certain the facts would bear out no reasonable cry of racism, I would consider working other celebrities to counteract any Oprah effect, rather than kissing her continually fluctuating in size butt.
I disagree. I think the goal of almost every upscale store is to sell to the middle class, while keeping their upscale credentials intact. Making every housewife feel like they are unwanted in their stores and not good enough for their product with one hand, while selling them thousands of dollars worth of crap they can't afford and don't really want with the other is the trick. You fuck with that formula (and Oprah can, by telling them that they, like she, is actually not wanted in their stores), they've got a serious problem.

And God forbid there is real racism behind it. Just picture Joan Rivers asking someone is their scarf is Hermes on the red carpet and then making a joke about it. PR cancer.*

Six years age difference.

And Nic Cage and his little wife will last significantly less time than either of our marriages. (Mine lasted 5 as well.)

Not if you're springing to a place where I don't know what the fuck you're quoting, although it appears we might be even on that score.

six years which way? or does it matter? just curious.

I had a 30-24 relationship when I was the 30. Was fun for a couple months, but I determined he was generally more interested in playing X-Box all night with his roommates than leaving his apartment, so things didn't work out.

Mr Man and I have a 3 year age difference, and when he talks about his love of Reo Speedwagon in his youth, it feels like more than that.

I would consider any age difference irrelevant when hubby doesn't go down.

I am six years older than my soon-to-be ex. Every time someone brought up the Challenger explosion and he mentioned that he'd been in sixth grade at the time, I got a little sick.
