Happy Wednesday to you too.
You know, someone recently asked about which absent posters we missed most. And after I replied, I thought to myself, "Whatever happened to Anne Elk? I miss her too."

Congrats from me, too. I look forward to you getting all sappy over your kid. BTW, not sure that this already has been asked, but are you going to find out whether you're having a boy or a girl?

Two pieces of advice.

1. If you do find out if it will be a boy or a girl, do not tell anyone who might get you or the baby a gift. People don't seem to understand that girls wear colors other than pink and boys wear colors other than baby blue.

2. Do not invite anyone (that's right, anyone) to give you their opinion on what you will name your baby. When someone asks you if you've thought of any names, that is a disguised request for an invitation to give their opinion. Just say, "We have a few in mind but haven't yet decided." When they say, "Oh, which names do you have picked out?" say, "We have a few in mind but haven't yet decided."

Couldn't have said it better myself. But then be prepared for the inquirers to be insulted that you won't tell them, especially if it's close family.

Whenever a friend of mine won't tell me what they are naming their baby, I always just give the baby a temporary name that 's very funny to me (to avoid having to say "it" or a generic "the baby" or "he" or "she"). I've used Juanita, Harvey, Ralph and Harriet, to name a few. Because these names make me giggle. Sometimes my friends get mad that I call their fetuses by these names. My friends lose their senses of humor when growing babies, I think.

Sebby, until you know the sex of your child, I am going to call it "Baby Paris." As we've learned from the media lately, that name can work for a girl or a boy!

Ha! I read it and I hate you. And I don't need to worry about reprisals because I've seen, I mean people have told me about, what was written about you on the Mod Board. They hate you too.

The funny thing is, if you tell someone the two names you have picked out (for a boy or a girl) before they are born, it's okay to say they think the name is shit. But no one would dare say anything like that after the baby is born. I guess because then it's inconsiderate and rude?

Another thing you will avoid by refusing to tell people name choices is the inevitable, "Don't name your child _________ because I associate that name with somebody who is horrible in my office/college/church/whatever." It's not funny. These people are serious.

The only times it is appropriate to make fun of names are (1) before the soon-to-be-mom is actually pregnant, (2) to someone's face about their own name and (3) anytime, behind their or their parents' backs.

I'm still pissed off that my favorite girl name was appropriated by an allergy medicine a few years ago. How can I name my firstborn girl Claritin now?

And no, I'm not pregnant.

Since I will never have children I can tell you that I have picked out the following names:

Boy: Dante Seven Kiss
Girl: Ariella Jade Kiss or Arabella Jade Kiss

I name most things I own though, for example a piano named Jezebelle, plants named Tyler Durden, Lolita, Lazarus, and Pearl, a ring named Barcelona, etc. Next on my list of purchases is a "statue" of a black panther that I will name Bathsheba.
