I think Andrew Shue got Botox in his upper lip. It never moved, ever. So annoying (on top of everything else that was annoying about him).

I loved Sydney. Awesome character. Remember when she and Traci Lords joined that cult?

I always thought Jane was so damn hot on that show. Jane is her name, right? Short blonde hair?

And we can't forget scar lady. She totally ruined her career because every time I see her in anything else, I think she's going to take off her hair to reveal that frickin' scar. Damn that was a good episode.

And what can I say about Heather Locklear that everyone doesn't already know?

They need a new evening soap.

Thurgreed(they got rid of the only black girl on that show after like 3 episodes -- fuckers)Marshall
Well, I google Melrose in vain hoping to find it on DVD bc, wel how cool would it be to have all those shows and a big party with a huge bag of pot and all of your favorite gay friends? Lots of websties out there begging for a DVD but nothing.

Anyawy, I did learn that Doctor Kimberly Shaw apparently is getting her own show and I had the exact thought you did, TM, of her leaning into the mirror and slowly ripping off that wig to show the scar. I can still feel the shock and disgust.

Jane Mancini. And Sidney. Remember her? The bitchy little redhead? The best was when she married that other worst actor ever, David Charvet and then she got killed.

They definitley need a new evening soap. I bet you and I could get together and write a wicked pilot. What do you say? I will even allow you to throw in a token non hoochy black person. But we will need lots of hooch.

Everyone's talking about how impossible T-Mac is to
guard. Well how about The Big Ticket, Kevin
Garnett. Maybe this is a blindingly obvious statement
bt watching tonight's game (Minnesota
up by 5with 20 seconds left) this guy is unstoppable.
Fox, Bryant, Horry and everyone else have looked
totally useless against him. I wonder what Flip does
during timeouts.

"Ok, Troy, take the inbounds pass from KG, give the
ball back to him posting up on the wing by lobbing the
ball 12 feet into the air and letting him go up for
it. Then, KG, you spin baseline, fake to the middle,
step back, and sink the unblockable 16 footer."

How tough is that? I could be a coach.

Whoops, Kobe just hit a 4 pointer. What kind of foul call is that? Crap. This is quite a game.

Another thing about KG is that he makes the T-Wolves
IMPOSSIBLE to press. Any time they pressure the ball,
the ballhandler can just lob something high in the air
in his direction knowing he'll come down with it.

They keep showing McHale in the stands. He looks like
he wants to puke. This is highly amusing. Anyways, win or lose, this game and this series, I think KG is a mensch. But if they lose, I think T-Wolves fans will be saying "Wha' Happened?"
Do you have a friend you can go out to a bar and watch the game with? Or maybe one you can call from home and talk to during the game?

Speaking of overwrought dialogue by falling stars, I'm off the Kevin Smith bandwagon. I think time will not treat his oeuvre kindly. At first I thought Dogma had some funny moments, but then I realized I just wanted to think so, and the balance of it just makes me mad. I've even stopped liking Clerks, which in fact does not bear repeated watching, contrary to popular belief. I'm starting to look upon people who endlessly quote his movies with the same pity and awe as those who could recite Holy Grail in high school. No offense.

If he ruins his Fletch movie, I'll fucking kill him.

Is it the same in other indy markets?

Even(everything is hip-hop)Odds
It's actually quite different around here. For years, the indie scene was rather "three degress of Fugazi". Being the home of Dischord, that will always be true, to some extent.

There has always been a thriving indie scene here, as far as the number and variety of good bands goes. Unfortunately, being the buttoned up town DC is, attendance is spotty, and the number of good venues diminishes over time. And don't tell me about how awesome the 9:30 club is, according to Rolling Stone. They don't book local indie bands anymore, for the most part. They've had to outgrow that.

There are some seriously good bands around here that deserve mention, but as this is a national board, the one I'll really refer to is The Carlsonics, since their debut is coming out on Arena Rock in about two months. This band will smoke anyone out of their foxholes, and will make everyone forget crap like The Vines ever existed.

Nope, my mom did. One night she watched Melrose with me and said, hey that actress was on my soap. good for her for making itinto primetime. She also noted the same about Lauren Holly, adding that Lauren got implants since her soap days.

Alright. You draw up some detailed characters and email them over and I'll think up a plot once I get them.

If you get stuck, just use some of your personalities. Make them sign a waiver first, though.

Hmmm....

Well, I'm not a chick.
I'm not a GA, more of a Gp. (Little p for BIGLAW paralegal)
DC GAs don't get time to be indie rockers. Me? I gave up law school so I could still chase the dream...

Anyway, as for this weekend, two things. McLusky at the Black Cat (with The Carlsonics opening) is not to be missed. Though I'll miss it anyway, since a friend's band is having a CD release tonight.

Tomorrow night, Carborundum and the Hurricane Lamps at the Galaxy Hut. Small intimate venue in Arlington.

Wasn't that back when the show took itself seriously? They had black woman, gay guy, Billy was a struggling writer, Michael was struggling with his residency and his new marriage, they had some blond who was an aerobics instructor, blah, blah, blah?

Boy did the show suck then.

Gee, thanks. I say I'm feeling old and you bring your mom into it. You're only three years younger than me, little missy.

I seem to remember Lauren Holly on All My Children. Does anyone still watch those daytime soaps? What a friggin waste of time.

(Distressed that Lucinda Williams makes a lame attempt at a rap poetry thing on her latest.)
Its their simplicity that makes the Stripes great. Sure, they're now a packaged and marketed commodity (like every other moderately talented group the filthy greedheaded fucks who run the music biz can get their hands on), but the record is better than 99.9% of anything else on the radio these days.

That the Stripes pass for genius is a commentray on how bad the folks in the record business and at Clear Channel have made things.

Of course, the greatest bands of all time kept it simple, so maybe the Stripes are genius.

And on another topic

Sorry I'm posting so much today. I'm verbose. But I wanted to chime in about Survivor. It doesn't seem to be generating much buzz, and that's a shame because from a "game" perspective this is by far the best one yet. This ranks up with Big Brother 3 (the hot-tub alliance, the hot-tub backlash, Lisa voting against bringing Eric back into the house, Danielle & Jason's secret alliance, Marcellus digging his own grave, Lisa's highly improbable win) as the most exciting (again, from a game-perspective) reality show of the modern reality show era.

It is almost beyond belief that Alex fell prey to the almost identical mistake that got Deana booted out the week before. The look on the faces of Jenna and Heidi as Alex took the walk was better than perfect.

Crazy Matt continues to be fascinating. I think that if the final four is Rob, Butch, Christy and Matt, they'd better bump off Christy as soon as they can, because if she gets into the final 2, she's probably going to win. Rob is probably counting on bringing Matt with him as a Brian/Clay or Richard/Kelly thing, i.e., they hate both of us, so I've got a decent shot of winning. I don't see how Rob could beat either Butch or Christy in a jury vote. Unless the jury respects the fact that Rob has the Survivor game in a choke-hold.

It seems like a done deal that next week, Jenna gets a visit from a loved one, and that's her goodbye present. So long, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Prediction: Rob wins, Matt second, with lots of comments like: 'Rob, you're a weasel, a liar, and a snake, but you played the game great. Matt, you're only here because Rob dragged you here.'

Off the top of my head, here's how I rate the different versions of the Big 3 in terms of game-excitement.

Big Brother 3 (Lisa beats Jason)
Survivor 6 (yet to be determined)
Amazing Race 3 (Flo & Zack, the impossible victory)
Amazing Race 2 (Chris and Alex pass Will & whats-her-name in the final sprint)
Survivor 1 (Richard beats Kelly)
Survivor 5 (Brian beats Clay -- some potentially exciting moments once it reached the final 5, with Ted and Helen and Jan and whatnot, but ultimately a fizzle)
Survivor 4 (Vecepia beats who? Kathy came third and should have won, I remember that)
Big Brother 2 (Will beats Nicole through no real strategy other than being a bastard)
Survivor 2 (Tina beats Colby, ho hum)
Amazing Race 1 (Rob and Brennan easily beat the field)
Survivor 3 (Ethan and Lex and yawn)
Big Brother 1 (Eddie beats Josh & Curtis, as if there was any doubt)

Yes, it did. But give Spelling his kudos. The man knew how to play to his show's core demographics.
