My disgust for that movie was unequalled until I saw Quills.
Ahem. I like Ed Burns. I liked "The Brothers McMullen" a lot. I liked the Irish tinged instrumental music that he used on the soundtrack. I liked the guy who played his father -- John Somebody (he also plays Frasier's dad). I didn't think that the chick that played his girlfriend was a good actress, but whatever.

I liked his next movie, "She's The One," too. I think that Jennifer Anniston was very good in it, and I think that Cameron Diaz is attractive only in this movie, "There's Something About Mary," and "Any Given Sunday." I also think that the guy who plays his brother is a good actor (though why you would want to stray from a wife like Jennifer is beyond me). I liked the songs that Tom Petty wrote for Ed. Again, I don't think that the acting of Ed's then squeeze was up to the level of the others, but whatever.

To sum up, I like Ed. I like his movies. Maybe I'm an idiot, or maybe I'm blinded by the shared ethnic heritage, or maybe I just think that Jennifer Anniston is hot.

Yeah, my grandma used to tell my mom about watching that show. Sounded cool when my mom told me those stories. Did it ever make it to color TV?

I've even stopped liking Clerks, which in fact does not bear repeated watching, contrary to popular belief. I'm starting to look upon people who endlessly quote his movies with the same pity and awe as those who could recite Holy Grail in high school. No offense.

If he ruins his Fletch movie, I'll fucking kill him.
Kevin Smith did two good flicks - Chasing Amy and Clerks. The rest suck. His last flick was awful. Too much dialogue.

I seem to remember Lauren Holly on All My Children. Does anyone still watch those daytime soaps? What a friggin waste of time.
Now I feel old.

If you kinda sorta liked Dogma, or just wanted to like Dogma, but wanted it to be that much more, go read Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. The book is absolutely hysterical. Rumor (i.e. the IMDB) has it that Terry Gilliam is going to direct it, though one wonders about Terry Gilliam's ability to direct anything after the Don Quixote.

Totally off topic, but I just found my favorite headline after the infamous "Man, Woman, Serpent Die in Firey Crash":

Sect Leader Irked by Santorum Remarks Likening Homosexuality to Polygamy

Music and a Nighttime Soap

I discovered Platinum on the WB last Friday when they ran two episodes back to back. Now that is some dramatic fun.

An independent hip-hop label run by two brothers -- one played by Sticky Fingaz, the other by the guy who looks like Michael Jai White but isn't.

It's produced by Sofia Coppola and John Ridley (of Three Kings and Undercover Brother fame).

I have no idea when it is actually on since it's playoff time.

I have heard, but I have not confirmed, that Tyler Christopher is back on General Hospital to reprise his role as Nikolas Cassadine. I used to watch it when I was in law school, and I stopped having a clue what was going on around the time that Brenda was killed off. (She apparently came back from the dead briefly during a recent sweeps.)

It's on right after Buffy (they've already torn down all the sets) on Tuesday nights on the WB.

Edited to say paigow it is the links you use that are incorrect. You need to copy the entire link for the picture itself, which you find by right clicking on the picture, clicking on properties, and then copying the link.

Sorry I'm posting so much today. I'm verbose. But I wanted to chime in about Survivor. It doesn't seem to be generating much buzz, and that's a shame because from a "game" perspective this is by far the best one yet. This ranks up with Big Brother 3 (the hot-tub alliance, the hot-tub backlash, Lisa voting against bringing Eric back into the house, Danielle & Jason's secret alliance, Marcellus digging his own grave, Lisa's highly improbable win) as the most exciting (again, from a game-perspective) reality show of the modern reality show era.

It is almost beyond belief that Alex fell prey to the almost identical mistake that got Deana booted out the week before. The look on the faces of Jenna and Heidi as Alex took the walk was better than perfect.

Crazy Matt continues to be fascinating. I think that if the final four is Rob, Butch, Christy and Matt, they'd better bump off Christy as soon as they can, because if she gets into the final 2, she's probably going to win. Rob is probably counting on bringing Matt with him as a Brian/Clay or Richard/Kelly thing, i.e., they hate both of us, so I've got a decent shot of winning. I don't see how Rob could beat either Butch or Christy in a jury vote. Unless the jury respects the fact that Rob has the Survivor game in a choke-hold.

It seems like a done deal that next week, Jenna gets a visit from a loved one, and that's her goodbye present. So long, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Prediction: Rob wins, Matt second, with lots of comments like: 'Rob, you're a weasel, a liar, and a snake, but you played the game great. Matt, you're only here because Rob dragged you here.'

Off the top of my head, here's how I rate the different versions of the Big 3 in terms of game-excitement.

Big Brother 3 (Lisa beats Jason)
Survivor 6 (yet to be determined)
Amazing Race 3 (Flo & Zack, the impossible victory)
Amazing Race 2 (Chris and Alex pass Will & whats-her-name in the final sprint)
Survivor 1 (Richard beats Kelly)
Survivor 5 (Brian beats Clay -- some potentially exciting moments once it reached the final 5, with Ted and Helen and Jan and whatnot, but ultimately a fizzle)
Survivor 4 (Vecepia beats who? Kathy came third and should have won, I remember that)
Big Brother 2 (Will beats Nicole through no real strategy other than being a bastard)
Survivor 2 (Tina beats Colby, ho hum)
Amazing Race 1 (Rob and Brennan easily beat the field)
Survivor 3 (Ethan and Lex and yawn)
Big Brother 1 (Eddie beats Josh & Curtis, as if there was any doubt)
Wow that is some amazing recollection you have. I watched part of Survivor last night (for the first time in at least a month). That Matt guy seems pretty creepy. He sure thinks he has the whole thing won, which to me means he's the next one out. Heidi and Jenna are those annoying girls that you just want to slap (we're so cool and fun, see how we painted our faces!). I didn't see enough of anyone else to really form an opinion. When they were showing the votes at the end it looked like the old guy voted against Alex and one of the cute girls voted against Matt. Guess their betrayals cancelled each other out.

There have been several articles (I think one was posted here but I'm not sure) about how some CBS employees were caught placing bets offshore on who will be the final two.

Matt and Jen are supposedly the final two. I also heard that Heid goes next week and that the final four are Christi (ends in 4th place), Butch (3rd place) Matt and Jenna. No word on who actually wins.

Rob is not that brilliant. While I"m thrilled that he flip-flopped (because I hate the Barbie brigade), he just ensured that, were he to make it to the final two, most of the jury wouldn't vote for him (and he already betrayed his alliance with Deena). There's not a big enough financial difference between second and fourth place to risk alienating most of the jury like that.

You should try crystal meth. It lasts a bit longer than straight speed, and has a sort of physicality to it that speed lacks.

(There was an SNL episode years ago - woman showing how she obsessively folded all of her bags, and then ironed them flat, and then put them away in order with her hundreds of other bags - it was a commercial for speed. Your post brought back memories . . .)
