And who spews condemnations of anyone to his left 24 hrs a day?

I would be insulted by such compliments, clearly intended merely to shut me the fuck up.
Um, I do realize that regardless of how this discussion arose it reflects Coltrane's general attitudes toward compliments? I'm not a proponent of fake compliments, gorgeous.

Eta that I wasn't responding to bilmore. If he can't bring himself to give a compliment because it feels fake, that's fine. But Coltrane seems to be justifying discomfort in giving them with some philosophy about what the recipient's "need" to hear them might reflect, and that's irritating, you sexy thing, you.

Quoting instead of editing is so hot, sexy.

Here's a compliment: you're much more tolerable when you're trying to be funny.

I apologize to all those who I insulted, excoriated, and whined at. I was unbalanced. I will not act as a Chairman Of Various Regional Thingies again. I can no longer handle the stress. I am too set in my ways. My impatience has overtaken my acceptance.

Can I come back now?
Welcome home, Fishface.

I'm not uncomfortable giving them. I just give them when they are accurate.

I wish I could say the same about you.

Honestly, people, I am not recommending you insincerely compliment people you love. But if you can't think of a half dozen sincerely complimentary things to say to your girfriend in a given day, that's too bad.

Are you complimenting him because you love him, or because you want to fuck him?

You're not?

It's definitely a european attitude--my sister faced it as well from her, um, friend, um, companion, er lover. Whatever. She wanted marriage, even though she subscribes to the "not much point getting married until kids are in the picture." Him, not so much. Nor his brother, who has two kids out of wedlock (same woman--with whom he sleeps at night). His family is entirely comfortable with it. Dunno if the european rights are sufficiently better in important respects such that marriage really does confer no particular advantage other than religious legitimacy.

To inside trade, a senator would have to have access to private information about a company, would have to be able to correctly judge the impact of that information, and would have to either buy or sell on that information.

Or, it could be that 100 people is a small enough group to have a statistical aberration that is reenforced by the fact that Senators are on average a) pretty smart and b) have access to the best financial advisors in the world.

I'm not saying the article is wrong, I'm just a little sceptical.
Or could it be that the 100 people who are about to approve a bill increasing military spending by $85 billion (just to take an obvious example) might have a reasonable assumption that defense contractors' stocks are going to go up when the news is made public?
