I just don't get the angle on this. What money is made by making sure my friend, who broke glass in '85 has a bio on IMDB. There had to have been a paid employee doing it and I don't see why anyone would pay to have it done.

Not Bob's Random Comments
1. While I have long known that this was a biological possibility, I discovered yesterday that I am apparently Paigow's father. The Not Bobette came home from the mall with a DVD of The Big Lebowski. Shut the fuck up, Donnie, indeed.
2. Satellite radio rawks. Last night, I heard the long version of "Black Coffee in Bed" by Squeeze. The other day, it was old Stevie Wonder -- "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing" and "Living in the City." Beautiful. This makes me realize how limited the playlists of ClearFinity stations really are. I can't remember the last time I heard any of those songs on a commerical radio station. I've probably heard "Ebony and Ivory" 300 times since the last time I heard "Living in the City." It's nice to be reminded that Stevie is a genius.
3. Uh, I thought that there was a 3, but apparently not.

That site gets a TON of hits b/c it's so comprehensive. It's the best all-around movie info site on the internet (by far). Why hold back? Studios pay the site to place ads for upcoming movie and DVD releases.

Not so hard. There are lots of ads for movies, etc. There's also a subscription portion where, if you're in the entertainment industry, you can get additional information, features, etc.
This is becoming a bible of the Industry, FWIW. There are also a small number of startups in Southern CA creating similar sites based on the premise that what producers, agents, and talent REALLY need is a website for them to connect and form a holistic online community. I sense that those VC dollars are unlikely to ever find a profitable exit, but whatever.

I haven't STPed, but a lot of it is a self-reporting community-wide effort sort of like Wikipedia, which means that a lot of the information in there is wrong. Obviously, the people who are involved in a project have an interest in making sure that their information is in there, but a lot of fans submit information which can lead to inaccuracies.

So I could get a bio? Create a fake movie that I starred in?

Most of the information on Wikipedia is very accurate (at least the encyclopedic information).

Right, and most of the information on the IMDB is very accurate, but sometimes there are errors.

Kathryn Cramer has a very interesting photo essay using a lot of the Google Earth pictures on what's going on with the levee system in New Orleans. It's rather horrifying.

The Chronicle is reporting that they're moving the refugees from the Superdome to the Astrodome. HISD is waiving immunzation record requirements to let kids in our schools, Astroworld and many of the museums and symphony are letting people with drivers' licences from the affected states in for free. There's a firestation in Katy that took in a family of 88.

For some reason, in this context, the term "pie chart" is seeming far funnier to me than it should.
