Hmm. Hard to say. If I were like Rita Adessa, who is known to jump to conclusions (say that would be a fun game) as well as seek whatever publicity she can get, I would say sure, that it sounds like he is comparing gay men to rodents and that is hardly a nice thing and he should apologize and take a class on learning to be more tolerant, that bastard.

But, I prefer not to jump to conclusions, so let me talk to myself for a moment while I reason it out, you folks out there in LawTalker land allow your eyes to wander away if you prefer.

First, as you said, why did he say rat? Most people say duck. Why did he change it something that can only be seen as insulting? Is it the way he heard it growing up? Instead of duck did he hear rat? If that is how he heard it that is how he heard it and it isn't fair to say he means to be insulting, any more than someone using the duck saying.

On the other hand, if he just changed it for that particular instance, I'd have to say it is pretty clear he meant to be insulting. But does that mean he was attacking gay people? Was he saying something about gay men, or was he saying something about one man in particular whom the article suggests he doesn't like?

It certainly isn't something that is going to make me feel warm fuzzies towards the man, but unless there is some record of him saying insulting things about gay people, I'd rather assume he was being an ass about one individual he doesn't like as opposed to being an ass about a whole group of people. Cause that's just the kind of girl I am.

I've been using that one on colleagues who annoy me (most) ever since, and if it isn't an accurate quote, I'd be saddened.

I read that NYTimes article on the suitcase bomb on the train this morning and thought "Fuck, am I glad to live in a city so shitty Queda would never bomb it.'

I hate snakes. I am snakephobic and I am afraid of them. I also hold them in contempt. I have directed others to kill snakes before, and I would do it again. Suffice it to say, if I were to discover a snake in my house, I would pass out in fear and shock and probably be killed by the snake. I want snakes to stay away from me. I want to stay away from snakes. I don't care if a snake can rush for 2000 yards a season (I didn't bother to look up Kenny Stabler's stats, btw, wasn't he rumored to be a gay?) A snake is a snake. I have no pretentions that my view on this matter are in any way progressive, but I don't care. Down with snakes.

As long as I don't have to smell them, I like ducks. I like watching them paddle around a fountain or pond or lake, particularly if a string of ducklings is involved.

Snakes probably eat ducklings and even possibly ducks. So I may be on RT's side about snakes.

ETA I doubt they blow well; beaks don't look flexible enough. I've never heard of DSBs.

Stabler? Damn. Learn something new every day. I assume you know that Kordell Stewart is gay. I wonder if the stress of being gay fucked up his career, or if he was just awful from the get-go. Perhaps they could do a scientific analysis of whether gay men have trouble reading coverage.

Though, someone quoted him later in the article about saying gay men should stay away from him. Again, that could mean two things. Either he is afraid and wants no gay men near him but for when they are playing the game, or he is really just trying to say gay men shouldn't hit on him. The first would literally be homophobic. The second not so much.

I frequently say the same thing about men, I don't think that makes me manphobic. I'm perfectly happy to talk to men, I even let them touch me from time to time - in a non-sexual way of course. Maybe a hug or a pat on the arm or something. I just really prefer it that they don't hit on me. Of course they do, and I don't punch them, nor would I kill them and then argue heteropanic as my defense. But I still wish they wouldn't do it. (I think I might be Sebbiephobic though.)
