While I can understand wanting to die rather than see my daughter married to Tom Green, surely it couldn't have outweighed the unobjectionable 71.6 years of his life.

Death Pool 2005

Any interest in doing this again in 2005? I'm thinking it might convert from a pool with prizes to a pride-only pool. And I'm considering getting rid of the wild card pick. But I'd like input from the community.

As far as death pool 2004 goes, I think there are about 4 or 5 people who are tied for the lead at 3. Not overwhelmingly strong results (though, to be fair, we did start mid-year). I'll post the list of leaders in the next week or two.

I'd play again. Like you care.

2 on the first sentence. But I know you care.

Of course, I'll submit the same list, with replacements for those I actually hit. Cuz I'm lazy.

I'll play again. I think I should get a special "Angel of Life" bonus, because I don't think ANY of my picks hit.

I did not play this year, but I would love to give it a shot in 2005. Oh, and keep the wild card.

Possibly, though I don't think that's bound to solve the "dead heat" problem, IYKWIM.

I'm in. Keep the wildcard. We need to come up with some way the ties. Maybe expand out to 20 picks or add that funky age at death rule Hank referenced?

Wild card seems to be too much work for not enough excitement. I propose that in lieu of the wild card, the rules be as follows: Each person picks any 10 celebrities they want (of course, there will be a baseline measure by me as to whether they qualify as "celebrities", but no restrictions as to age, health, etc.). Players get 1 point for each celebrity they pick who dies during 2005. Hank Chinaski rules govern the tie-breaker - if the year ends in a tie, the tie-breaker will be measured by taking each celebrity who died on tied players' lists and subtracting their age from 100. So if you picked Reagan, you would net 7 points in the tie-breaker, while Arafat would net you 25 points, etc. Anyone over 100 who you picked would net you no points in the tie-breaker. This will provide some incentive to pick younger people, without the logistical headache of the wild card.

Sound good?

Cool. I'll start a new board with the rules of the 2005 Celebrity Death Pool and I'll conduct entries the same way I did this year. Lists should be PM'ed to me by December 31, 2004 at noon (EST). 10 celebrities should be on each person's list. I'll let you know by PM if any entries fail to qualify as celebrities (examples of non-celebrities include Michael Jackson's accuser and Laci Peterson's mother). If you would like to include an obscure celebrity on your list, make sure you let me know who that person is and I'll verify whether they qualify or not. Also if you include obscure celebrities, it'll be on you to monitor whether or not they've died. I'll be checking cnn.com on a regualr basis, because I am a slave to their sugary-pop brand of national and international news, but don't think I'm going to catch every 97 year-old baseball player from the 30's or whatever who kicks it.

If anyone on your list dies before the end of 2004, they will not count towards your 2005 total, but you will be allowed to add a substitute celebrity to your 2005 list.

I'll post all entries on the new thread after the start of the New Year.

That's about it. PM me your lists this month. And good luck.
