OK, no PR disaster there.

Read Clarke's book. Clarke says that this assault on bin Laden's compound (if that's the one you're thinking about) was nixed at his recommendation and that of George Tenet because the raggedy-ass light infantry skirmishers they had watching and chasing bin Laden were judged to be no match for the tanks and machine-gun emplacements at his little fortress. As Clarke put it [Paraphrase] -- "All we'd have done is get every CIA asset in Afghanistan slaughtered for nothing."

This is old news. Read Clarke's book.

But you have to admire the GOP damage control of responding to the 9/11 commission report by recycling tired stories about Clinton, as if he were running for President again.

When those poor suckers in West Virginia got nailed for their anti-Bush shirts, I didn't blame on the White House. And they were hauled off -- this guy still has his sign up.

Hmm. Could have fooled me:

Apparently they've got Justice Scalia's bodyguards doing the security at Bush events now.

The ambiguous "they" was referring to a third party connected neither with Bush nor Scalia (and his acolytes)?

When is it that the RNC is going to send a squad of clean-cut kids in "I (heart) BUSH" T-shirts to take over MTV's TRL, exactly?

(1) It was a joke, re the woman protecting Scalia (a federal marshal -- not a White House employee) who seized a tape recorder at a Scalia speech. I think even the good justice said she screwed up.
(2) I doubt the White House (or the Kerry campaign) is giving political direction to the Secret Service -- I'm thinking the Secret Service just doesn't go for that sort of thing.
eta:
(3) Recall that I later said: "And I didn't say the White House made the call here. I just said it was wrong."

Tell me, all you conservative opponents of affirmative action, why is it that the Treasurer of the United States has to be a Hispanic woman?

That's ok. I just picked up the 9/11 Commission Report for a fun weekend read.
From all accounts so far, the report doesn't make Clarke look nearly as forthright as he purports to be in his book. Quite the contrary.

Old news. Bush already released all of his records. These can't be new.

Que? On the one hand, unless it's talking about his 12" python of love, it couldn't possibly put him in as favorable a light. But what do you mean about "forthright"?
