I'm happy I'm not the person who wrote those pieces 17 years ago, but I'm not seeing the part that leads you to say that he was an anti-Semite then, let alone now.

You mean like the visit with Assad that the WH arranged for Republican congressman Pitts?

Seriously, that's what has got you all worked up? As much as I enjoy every opportunity to read old issues of the Minnesota Daily, those pieces, especially the second one, don't seem terribly controversial in the context of the college student newspaper.

Probably. I doubt the Israelis invited her over to be their messenger. But who knows?

I don't think it needs to justify the visit. I think there's some benefit to having Congressmen and women visiting other countries. I think the Bush Administration's notion of trying to isolate Syria is counter-productive, and serves as the substitute for having to figure out what we should be saying to Syria. And the you see this, concretely, in the value of having an American being able to take a message from Israel to Syria to try to reduce the risk of war between them. That was Israel's concern, per the Ha'aretz story.

GOP Rep. Darrell Issa is meeting with Syrian President Assad today. Hold your breath until Fred Hiatt writes an editorial condemning him and Slave calls him a moron -- it's going to happen any second.

Wow. Kurt Russell plays Shifty!

Which reminds me, Hank, I was home sick last week and got to watch a bit of Gilligan. I like the new commercials you're running.

Not that it would matter. The owners can't rent them at any rate.

Blondie would say the tide is higher.

For Spanky:

Figure 11.10: Estimated sea level rise from 1910 to 1990. (a) The thermal expansion, glacier and ice cap, Greenland and Antarctic contributions resulting from climate change in the 20th century calculated from a range of AOGCMs. Note that uncertainties in land ice calculations have not been included. (b) The mid-range and upper and lower bounds for the computed response of sea level to climate change (the sum of the terms in (a) plus the contribution from permafrost). These curves represent our estimate of the impact of anthropogenic climate change on sea level during the 20th century. (c) The mid-range and upper and lower bounds for the computed sea level change (the sum of all terms in (a) with the addition of changes in permafrost, the effect of sediment deposition, the long-term adjustment of the ice-sheets to past climate change and the terrestrial storage terms).

doesn't the fact that the slope in 1910 (pre- to early industrial revolution) is about the same as today mean that something natural is occuring?

Figure 11.10b is anthropogenic change only.
