Lots of pundits think the source of his problems with McNabb are the comments made by McNabb while TO rehabbed with the broken leg. Something along the lines of "We will play okay without TO" or something like that.

I will try to explain.

After the 2001 season, the Eagles lost to the Rams in the NFC Championship game. It was the farthest they had gotten in the playoffs in some time. The loss was barely mourned because the future looked so bright. No real need was seen to make personnel changes.

After the 2002 season, the Eagles lost to the Buccaneers in the NFC Championship game. It was a devastating loss that was believed to have happened because McNabb had missed the previous 2+ months recovering from a leg injury. He was simply too rusty to move the offense. A tough loss, but injuries are part of the game so, again, no real need was seen to make personnel changes.

After the 2003 season, the Eagles lost to the Panthers in the NFC Championship game. Again, it was a devastating loss. But this time there were scapegoats, our wide receivers who got manhandled by the Carolina cornerbacks. Finally, it was glaringly obvious that some personnel changes needed to be made.

And then, that off-season, one of the top 3 wide receivers in the league became available and the cost was only going to be a second round pick...
