Apparently Wilt Chamberlain is dead. I learned this over the weekend when a spirited disagreement over his dead or alive status broke out (I thought he was alive, but I was not one of the main participants in the disagreement). The woman who was with us who had never heard of Wilt Chamberlain (!!!!) had no particular opinion on that issue. What did he die of? Anything related to his manwhore image?

I seem to recall that he died of heart failure close to two years ago or so.

Damn. Try like six years ago. What the fuck??
The article said he was found dead in bed. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions on that one.

Heart attack in 1999, I think. NPR did a piece on his 100 point game last week.

I'm not all that thrilled about it, especially when compaed to the London show. Still, it will be interesting to see Stevie and Jay-Z.

What is Maroon 5?
P Diddy is supposedly going to do a rap in the middle of the DMB's cover of Watchtower. Fucking sick.

Replacement Killers
Good flick (how can you go wrong with Chow Yun Fat in a John Woo movie?). Bonus: Mira Sorvino looks fiiiiiiiine.

You know who they are but you are blocking it out. That's fine. I wish we could all do that.

And in other amazing feats in sports, the Houston Press just did a piece about Dock Ellis's 1970 no-hitter, thrown while he was tripping on acid. The no-hitter reminded me of what I imagine a sebby court appearance might be like. It wasn't pretty (there were several walks), several tense moments, and the protagonist was hallucinating profusely. However, he kept himself cool, ignored petty rules and superstitions, got the desired result, and then headed to the bar to even out all the amphetamines taken to help focus.

Stevie's a husk of the man he was in Cocksucker Blues.
Sarah McLaughlan OK? Sarah McLaughlan is the background music for every weepy photo collage of famous people who died the previous year. Its emo earthy bohemiam pap at its worst. Its what you listen to when they're about to remove the tube. Or when your world is upside down because you just don't know if Rachel and Ross would ever have made it. Fuck that entire genre.

Wow. Three in a row where I am the only object of your affections. I feel honored. Would it be too much to ask if maybe next time you could include a funny one in there?

Question
Anyone have any idea why a geisha-themed restuarant would have a bunch of nautical stuff? Like waiters wearing sailor shirts (not an attractive look, by the way) and big ropes on the wall? I have searched the internet for some sort of tie (ha) between the geishas and the ropes/sailors, but geisha history seems to lack any sort of link. I hate it when the internet lets me down.

Don't fuck with Stevie. He is timeless (pre-'80s).

Advice for Young Lesbians
Just in case there are any young lesbians reading the board.
"The best strategy for a teenage lesbian: Study hard and get good grades, and apply to a good liberal-arts college. Good grades can open doors to a world of smart, fun, open-minded women (read: action like you can't imagine). Four years at Wellesley were worth the debt."
