Does anyone have one of those >$100 fuzzy logic rice cookers? Care to wax rhapsodic about it and justify my impending purchase of one (we eat a fair amount of rice)? The likelihood I'd ever load one up and keep it full of hot, fluffy rice all day long is low. I need it to be fast, and foolproof, and non-stick.

Do not listen to wonk. I know 2 people (1 korean, 1 japanese) who both have had the traditional $40 rice cookers and they swear the the fuzzy logic (zojirushi?) is the shizznit. Spend the dough.

Advanced Reality for Fugee

And because my faith has certainly wavered over the years (hence the study), I can't cop to unwavering faith.
I will say that I have a deep faith in God as I understand God to be based on the Bible, which I think is reliable based on historical church and non-church materials, and what I see in the world and people around me. It is faith and not fact because we can't see or know God or the lack of God or whether there is life after death in a tangible fashion.
You have a faith that sounds to be as strongly held as mine. How do you justify yours?

Fugee-
With all due respect, what about people who don't think the Bible includes all the books you do?
Not to get all religious and pious and shit, but I believe in God, I believe in the Bible, I follow the tenents of a religion. But my religion acknowldeges only 5 books of the Bible, only the old testament, and only one God, not the trinity.
I believe that I try to follow God's law...and I'm pretty sure that that was at the heart of Jesus' message.
So, if I follow God's law, but I don't worship Jesus as a deity, am I still going to NotFredland, or Hell, or the giant toaster in the sky?
What happened to the message of tolerance in Christianity? What happened to love one another? Or is it tolerance and love only for those who believe in Jesus?
Maybe it's time for a religion board, because this has sucked all the fun out of my day.

Yep. We've gone well past the horse, we're all beating on a pot of glue.
I propose that we change the Board motto to "Where We All Want to Go to Fredland" and call it a day.

Only if you follow the traditional rule. There is a growing tendency to use the indicative mood when discussing something that's contrary to fact, especially when the subjunctive would require the past perfect tense.

Rice: A point of agreement

Buy a nice saucepan, all-clad, calphalon, whatever. Put in the amount of rice you want to cook. If you're serving 2-3, one cup; if you're serving 4-6, two cups. Add precisely 1.75 times the amount of water as rice. This is just like baking or organic chemistry. Don't eyeball it or estimate. Actually measure. Bring it to a boil, stirring once or twice. Once the water is at a rolling boil, stir once to make sure that no rice is sticking to the bottom of the pan, cover it with a tight-fitting lid, set the burner on "simmer" and set the timer for 15 minutes. Once the timer goes off, remove the pot from the heat, let stand untouched for five minutes. You will have perfect rice every time.

Spot on advice.
Now that we've left religion for the world of kitchen appliances.... I just got a KitchenAid Artisan mixer. I've been wanting one for a long time and recently burned out a hand mixer I just bought last August. Rather than buy another hand mixer, I decided to go deluxe. I can't wait to bake something.

huh-uh missy, answer my question about how your warm fuzzy compassionate conservative "free will" thing accommodates "damned to eternal hellfire."
ETA Kitchenaid mixers do rock; I'm shocked you only just got one. my only disappointment is that mine had a non-enamelled dough hook and, uh, other non-whisk attachment and I really would prefer enamelled.

Last Comic Standing
For those of you who watched last time, Last Comic Standing 2 is coming.
According to Realitynewsonline.com, open auditions were held in January in LA, Texas, NY, Boston, Nashville, Chicago and Tampa.
No news as to when the show will air.
Dave Mordal will be correspondent for the show during the searches.
Dat Phan is working on his acting career with a spot on the West Wing and in the movie Cellular.
And I guess you people in Boston missed the reunion.
Quote:
for those who live in the Stamford, CT, area, there will be a “class reunion” for Dave, Cory, Rich, and Ralphie when they perform at the Palace Theatre on Saturday, January 17, at 8pm.

I only got mine last Mother's Day (of course so I could take advantage of the free attachment promo--sausage, anyone?). Fugee, did you really get the white? I got wasabi, and then painted my kitchen walls to match (exactly). I'm still half-wishing I'd gotten the tangerine instead (the breakfast room is mango).

Screw religion. I do what I want. If God wants me to believe anything -- much less actually do or not do anything -- he can start paying me on the 1st and the 15th. Otherwise, he can fuck off.
