I suppose the analogy would be apt if California had been conquered in the 1850s by an imperial power that deprived the locality of its autonomy and instituted a policy of mass deportations to Siberia.

I do not support the rebels' methods, and I'm pretty sure I don't support their cause. But American politicians who are public fence straddlers about the outcome of the Civil War, and that means most Southern Republicans today, will find the separatist movements in the former Soviet Union a sticky wicket.

Dissent. Civil War afficianados may well skew both Southern and Republican, but this logical chasm is crossed by relegating the topic to re-enactments, bourbon, and discussions of it to metaphor of what the world should be.

More on point, I was just reading a summary on Yahoo. Apparently the "rescue attempt" today wasn't planned. The Russians' hand was forced when fighting broke out when the hostage takers began firing on a group of escaping hostages and the Russian soldiers began returning fire to provide cover.

Not that anybody's got warm fuzzies for the hostage takers / Chechnians* right now anyway, but shooting kids in the back knocks you down to the lowest of low.


*The Russians are now claiming they have found the bodies of several "Arabs" and believe this operation was joint between Chechnians and outside radical Islamist supporters.

This the problem I have with muslims. Where is the outrage among the so-called moderate muslims? All I ever hear them talking about is how they are being discriminated against. They need to shut their fucking traps up about this non-existent discrmination and start expressing some outrage. Every now and then some muslim group issues some luke warm statement saying they don't condone killing, but other than that, all they want to talk about is how they feel discriminated against. Fucking pathetic.

Yes, it's fucking absurd to say that they are viewed differently by Americans because of their religion. They need to shut their fucking traps, pronto.

Meanwhile, on behalf of Caucasians, I want to say that I condemn the portion of the killing in the school that was committed by Caucasians. That portion of the killing outrages me.

Apparently, they weren't letting any food or water in and reports are that some of the children resorted to drinking their own urine they were so thirsty. Many of those who were rescued were severely dehydrated. They came out naked because it was so hot in that gym packed with so many people that they took their clothes off.

Thank goodness that Iraq is the fly paper for terrorists or we could see stuff like that happen in the US. We may still see it happen. Keep your eyes on those Arabs and muslims who live around you. You can't tell by looking at them which ones are terrorists and which ones aren't so watch them all.

Anyone else hear about the muslims who were trying to attend conferences of emergency workers in the NY and NJ areas? They didn't want to learn anything about emergency rescue techniques, they were just interested in learning about the vehicles and the protocols associated with driving them. Word is that they were planning on using emergency vehicles filled with explosives to blow up during the RNC. So keep an eye on muslims driving emergency vehicles or wanting to learn about emergency vehicles.

They are viewed differently, but that is not discrimination. Discrimination is an act, not a view. Discrimination is when you try to get hired and are denied a job or are beaten up or something like that. That isn't happening.

While people sometimes separate out Arabs from "white" on race charts, Chechnyans are about as Caucasian as one can get, and certainly more literally so than most of my ancestors, none of whom ever came with 1500 miles of the Caucus mountains.
