Exclamation A plea for decency!

All:

While I know the rough and tumble of politics is....welll....rough....and tumble. And I have nuthin but love for the First Amendment, I think some of the mudslinging that goes in the political arena just plain stinks. And not only cannot I not endorse it, I denounce it. Publicly. Here. And. Now.

Case in point, Hillary Clinton and her current smearing of Senator Obama as described here .

Are the American people ready for an elected president who was educated in a Madrassa as a young boy and has not been forthcoming about his Muslim heritage?
This is the question Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s camp is asking about Sen. Barack Obama.

Honestly people, Republicans and Democrats alike, this is bullshit and Hillary, of all people, should understand this. I have already written a letter to her office condemning her counter-opps "investigations" of Senator oBama, and I would suggest, exhort, encourage all of all y'all to do the same.

While I expect the rhetoric in the next 21 months to be a little harsh, bullshit is bullshit and we need to draw a line on it.

Thanks,

Your Mod, Penske.

I agree wholeheartedly. I applaud your decision to cease quoting Insight Magazine and other conservative publications that publish scurillous ethnic and religious insinuations without being able to back them up with an on-the-record confirmation.

My only question is why you felt the need to post such obvious bullshit in the first place?

I wanted to see if we can reach some bipartisan consensus and give the Democrats here an opportunity to possibly effect some change within their own party to stop Hillary from doing this crap.

That, and ignoring it and pretending it doesn't exist won't make it go away, it just allows it to fester around the periphery and as a general subtext, probably negatively influencing the least mentally capable amongst us. Bullshit, such as what the Clinton campaign is doing here, needs to be brought to the light of day and confronted for what it is.

Thanks for joining me in this. I knew I could count on you.

Yours in MODeration,

Penske

Plus, it gives a golden opportunity to slander both Obama and Hillary at the same time!

Slander or libel?

Eitherwhichway, you should solicit both of the good Senators offices. Good rainmaking opportunity and the Moonies have deep pockets, yes?

eta: Is "moonies" politically correct? If not, substitute "the Unification Church" and consider this my apology to the Reverend Moon and his followers here and beyond.

Okay, but what's going to stop the Right press from publishing fake "leaks?"

The prospect of libeled parties engaging Adder to sue them.........

Seriously though, Insight/WA Times is not much further right than the NYTimes is left. I assume the legal checks on any media entity apply across the ideological spectrum. WaPo had its Janet Cooke and the Times its Jayson Blair, CBS had Rathergate, if the WaTimes story is false, as you seem to be implying, then I assume it will be exposed as such, in the same way those august leftleaning media entities were so exposed.

Do you have anything to indicate its false?

eta: Why did you limit your question to the "right" press? How about the "left" press publishing falsehoods? I thought we were embarking on a campaign of "bi-partisan" decency?

I'm sorry. I missed the part where you quoted the NYT running the same story. If someone starts quoting suspect material from the Times, I'll join you on the ramparts.

It certainly is odd that we find out about "Hillary's" smears of Obama from places like Insight and the National Review Online. Strange bedfellows? Or maybe it's something more onanistic on the part of Insight and NRO.

I am talking about a general stance for decency in the upcoming campaign and beyond. Obviously you want to split partisan hairs. I am sorry you are so myopic in your views of what the Clinton campaign is doing here and right and left MSM are doing here.

Maybe there are other more highminded folkes here and abroad who will join me in an ethical stance.

Anyone?

Forgetting about the WaTimes for a second, The National REview is a widely (beyond partisanship) respected, albeit mildly partisan journal. If you can't admit this you are beyond hope and should limiit yourself to circle-jerks with Wonk. And if Kos, if he would give you too rank and filers the time of day. No offence.

Did you know that NRO ran the same tidbit about Obama, likewise attributing it to the Hillary camp? Now that you know this, do you not find it a little odd that Hillary is choosing Insight and NRO as the media for her smears? I do.
