I'm cautious of becoming accustomed to the stuff and getting lax. Half my life is over and the thought of doing any onte thing for the rest of my working days makes me nauseaus. It ain't about lack of skill or achievement. Its about what Sidd exactly nailed - fear of dying without having found something I loved doing. Golden fucking handcuffs. Common problem. Can't give up the dough, but can't stand producing it cause the Mrs. needs the home of her dreams and kids. Fuck it...

I was unclear. Sorry. That was more about reacting to Sidd's words, and not about commenting on any perception that you suck as a lawyer. I don't imagine that's the case.

Why can't the Mrs. take a shitty high-paying job she hates so she can pay for that stuff, and you do something you'd like instead?

What's to critique? It was bad (other than staying in with 3 aces, which he had to do). Everyone was bad except for Ben and Don Cheadle...

Because she would no longer have sex with him if he were not a highly-compensated individual.

All terrain armored transport (at-at) walkers, all terrain tactical enforcer (at-te) walkers and all terrain scout transport (at-se) walkers are all types of imperial walkers. I'm pretty sure the one Luke tripped was the at-at. They were all at Hoth, I think.

Gotta say, I sympathize with you there. Sort of the "well, gotta make the rent, and this job beats working at the A&P, but I don't particularly like it, though I don't know what I'd like better, at least enough so to take a pay cut, and they keep kissing my ass in reviews so I must be doing something right despite being ambivalent and sort of half-assed about it, but this is looking more and more like a rut" thing? That's familiar.
Sidd, if you don't like people bitching about being lawyers, dude, I think you're on the wrong board.

Dude, if the Mrs. wants that shit, why doesn't she go the fuck out and get a job to get it? I have no, ZERO, ZLICH, NADA, sympathy for the idea that it is someone else's responsibility to provide you with the lifestyle to which you wish to become accustomed. Why is it YOUR responsibility to provide her a lifestyle subsidy? Because if you don't she won't wuv you or give head anymore? That's not marriage, that's prostitution. Sure, major lifestyle changes have to be discussed mutually, but expecting that you will cash in your piece of mind & ambitions for her material comfort is total, total bullshit. Fuck that.

California deems a gift certificate to be value held in trust by the issuer for the benefit of the recipient, and therefore has not allowed any expiration dates since 1997. Go us! El Pueblo unido jamás sera vencido.
I expect that the total fucking hypocrisy of Congress vis-ŕ-vis the Commerce Clause will eventually and inevitably result in the federal government occupying the field in order to vitiate any state consumer protection laws WRT interstate or internet commerce, so your actual expiration date is therefore technically "undetermined."

Didn't she give a deadline for him to put up or shut up re: getting a different "gig"? What happened with that? Is he back to broken-record-ly ranting here because he's gotten cut off at home?

Denigrating, with one fell swoop, the rationale for 75% of marriages involving highly-paid guys.

Does this mean that I can take an expired gift certificate to a chain store with me the next time I go to Cali, and they have to honor it? Or is it only for gift certificates originally sold in the PROC? If so, will it onyl not expire in LaLaLand, or will it not be allowed to expire if I use it at a branch of that chain in a different state?

Or: PJ says it briefly and first.
Spent the holiday with some family members of the "my husband is the breadwinner and how unfair for a woman to have to have the stress of earning an income, he's just not holding up his end" mindset (one of whom hasn't worked in a year to be mommy so they are about to lose their house because of the drop in income, which is of course all his fault), and I have to say all I could think was "greedy, lazy, user, ho-bitches."
If most women out there are like that, I am surprised more of you guys don't date female lawyers. We might still quit to live off your salary, but we'd know why the extra money wasn't there and at least have sympathy and be able to pick up the slack when you have that inevitable nerveous breakdown.
Again, as I have said before, I think it is much better to be a woman in current American society than a man. You men are fucking trapped, bitchslapped with the double standard. It totally sucks. I understand more and more in this job why men ditch Wife No. 1 for some nubile 19 year old skank - at least the "buy-sell" aspects of the transaction are honest and clear.

I agree with Burger. I hate Gift Certificates but not as much as I hate their evil siblings, Gift Cards. They're money wasters, in a few ways: either they're for a store I don't like, or they are for a store I like, in which case I often end up spending more of my own money because the things I want cost more than the card is worth. Shopping does this to people -- it awakens material desires that in my view are usually better left sleeping.
Third, merchants push these suckers because they know that about 10-15% of the funds on gift cards will go unredeemed. Ok, that's fine, people waste resources all the time, the companies can go ahead and exploit that consumer behavior if they want. But then they will really stick it to you up the ass by requiring you to pay a fee if you want to to "reactivate" a card that you didn't use within a year or two or whatever the fucking arbitrary deadline is.
That's why I give (and love to receive) Amex gift checks or cash. It's not as if the gift certificate is any less clear about what you decided to spend on the gift and even though you don't get the "I know you like this store" thoughtfulness factor, we all know that in the right circumstances, cash can be the most thoughtful gift of all.
