Or you could just send an e-mail to your local friends and say that you're getting rid of it and could anyone use one. That is how I got rid of a bunch of stuff (including a bike) when I moved to LA. Now I can monitor how my bike, living room set, etc. are doing if I so desire. And I like the people using them.

(No, I've never really cared to find out how the stuff is doing, but I COULD if I cared about that sort of thing.)

My bike used to be a good bike in 1995 or so, but now it's kind of outdated, although in good shape. Going through craigslist seems like a pain in the ass and I have no idea how much to sell it for there. (but I might do that if I can't find another way to get rid of it) Does anyone know of places that accept donated bikes? In NYC?

I suppose I could just leave it on the street and some enterprising soul might find it in his or her heart to find it a good home.
I used to refer clients to these guys http://www.bikesnotbombs.org/ when I was a defense attorney in juvenile court.

Nice guys. Good program.

We have a bike shop that helps kids earn bikes. They work in the shop and get points towards getting their own bikes. http://www.workshophouston.org/programs/bike_shop.php

I am also on a chat board for HS basketball teams/players*. One guy posted a story about perhaps the best "athlete" in Michigan right now. He is a 6' 6" kid who plays baseball/basketball and football. He should get a D-1 scholarship for football, but he says baseball is his sport.

This caused a couple guys on that board to opine (they didn't use that word) that baseball players aren't really athletic the way b-ball players are.

I realized what he means. there are lots of chubby guys in the majors- mostly pitchers- but Cecil and Prince Fielder are not too athletic in the traditional sense, as examples.

but when you see some of the plays in the field it is pretty clear these guys can run and leap and are quite co-ordinated; that is, athletic.

But here's the thing: the average ball player, (and I mean the fit ones too, the Jeters etc,) does seem stouter, at least through the waist, than guys in other sports. I was watching the Tigers and really noticed Ordonez, Polanco, and most of the starting lineup had some junk in the trunk. Still, they can move and they're great fielders. Maybe the weight helps in the hitting?

Am i imagining this phenom?

*muggs clarification- it is coaches/dads talking about players, not to players.

This is why my kids are not allowed to use a computer any place but the living room.

I was reading your posts and really noticed that most of them deal with checking out the physical characteristics of other dudes.

I don't think so. But basketball players do much, much more running than baseball players. They definitely burn way more calories. Plus the physical mold for a basketball player is long and lean. They pack muscle onto already thin frames, so they have great builds.

Baseball players have better hand-eye coordination. That's what is most important. So, a few extra pounds won't make much of a difference. Guys who have great hand-eye coordination are successful and therefore choose baseball. A few extra pounds doesn't mean you're not athletic, but you can't compare most of those guys to basketball players because basketball is a much more athletically demanding sport.

I have heat rash on my buttocks. It is DEAD SEXY.
For that weather (even without being sick), 45 minutes slower than you planned seems like a good time. It was not good marathon weather.
