That's sort of the scenario that I was envisioning. Before reading Balt's post, I would have thought that it takes awhile to get pregnant after being on the pill, so I could have seen going off of it sooner rather than later, especially if I thought that yeah, he'll end up changing his mind.

Sucks doesn't it? People who don't want to get pregnant do, and the ones who do, don't. I have a friend who had two miscarriages in 2003. One in February that was a spontaneous termination at around 8 weeks and one in September where the fetus died and they had to induce a stillbirth delivery at two and a half months. She's been working with her OB/GYN to see why she can’t stay pregnant, but the insurance company refuses to pay for any testing at all. They’ll pay for her health care when she miscarries, but they won’t help her to try and figure out why she’s miscarrying so she can avoid it.

Not by avatar. And it wasn't a fantasy, it was a dream. Sex dreams are different from sex fantasies in terms of how consistently they reflect your actual sexual desires.

Parenting involves the constant creation of artificial consequences to substitute for the real-world ones that are too remote for the kid to understand or appreciate. You teach the kid to predict the good and bad consequences, some of which are entirely of your creation. Sex has consequences. The good ones are obvious; the bad ones far less so. If a parent does not help the kid to understand them --- including by the creation of artificial consequences --- the kid does not magically turn out knowing how his or her behavior will turn out. Em winds up thinking that consequences are randomly assigned, and there's no harm in risky behaviors.

I do not understand how you reconcile "no one under 25 knows what they want" with "teenagers and preteens should not be discouraged from having sex, 'cause that will only make them want it more."
