No, it doesn't. For every good person who can't conceive there are a lot of obnoxious desperate-to-be-mommy types who cream at the notion of being in PTA meetings who I'm glad cannot conceive. I have a friend who's obsessed with having children because she desperately wants to be an uber-housewife. Cruelly, nature has decided not to reward her unhealthy obsession with being s Stepford wife. Sometimes I feel sorry for her, but other times I can't help but feel its karmic repayment for being a shallow person who always swore she'd never work and be a "kept mommy." Usually, I smugly feel more the latter than the former.

The missus and I have lost two great friend couples since popping out baby #1. They stuck as friends for awhile, wanted kids, but couldn't. They eventually couldn't be around us with the new kids stuff. These were really tight long term friendships.

By the time intelligent people hit marriage age (25?), they should (and deep down, they do) know whether they want children or not, or they at least know that they haven't made up their mind. I think that it's ok to change one's mind on this around age 14-20, but by 25 you should be ready to commit to breed or not breed, or at least know that you're not certain. And you should pair up accordingly.

Intelligent people don't hit marriage age until at least 30.

You shouldn't. But, I think it is quite rare (and I don't know why they say this because every time you turn around there is another unwanted pregnancy, but they do) that a woman can conceive so soon after being on the pill for so long. In fact, if you take the pill out of the equation altogether, it is rare for a woman to get pregnant right away. It's possible that she was exercising some wishful thinking -- that he would say that he was on board and her body would be that much closer to being ready to conceive. She probably got prego and it surprised her and then she didn't want to abort it.

Not necessarily evil and conniving. Just not so smart.

No one learned shit from "artifical circumstances." You learn by doing and experiencing. I will obviously tell my kids not to get pregnant and to avoid sexually transmitted diseases responsibly, but I will not preach abstinence because its unrealistic and contrary to human nature. I will merely give them what I know and drill it into their heads that they'd better not come home knocked up or having knocked someone up. To that end, I will give them free reign to go on whatever pills will exist at that point, and I will almost certianly give my son as much money as the strongest Hefty Bag strength condoms will cost at the time.

But I will not be one of these idiot parents who tells a 17 year old kid that responsible sex is the end of the world. Nor will I try to enforce some false religious values on the kids. Just tell em pragmatically what can happen and that they must be responsible. Thats all you can do.

We both like burritos and puppies)...but I do want all to be well for her and her brood of four-legged friends....and maybe Paigs has already offered up info on these subjects, but well, I don't check in that often and I may have missed it...so, let me ask....when are you getting married? How did the Prince propose? Will you be changing zip codes? Will you be gaining any four-legged step children? Is he a veggie (I've always thought it would be way cool to have a veggie couple who could cook amazing meals together)?...Will you divulge anything?

You probably won't tell me anything and will tell me to f*ck off, but I really do hope all is well and would love to hear more. My life is so mundane these days.
