I know winning is everything, but Notre Dame looks like a pack of assholes on this one. They hold themselves out to be the best of both worlds. A program that has high academic and athletic standards. The goal being not only to achieve football success, but to actually graduate the athletes achieving it. Willingham had three years (two years less than his two predecessors) to bring the program around. That means he was essentially doing it with someone else's players, as the ones he recruited will be coming into their own over the next two years.
ESPN and everyone else seems to think that Willingham was fired so they could get to Urban Meyer, the new "it" coach. I can see them not wanting to lose him to another program. But Jesus, they don't even know what kind of coach they have from their last hiring yet. What they do know is that Willingham was a model coach as far as ethics and academics were concerned. What a bunch of hypocrites. They should have stuck with George O'Leary.
I hope Meyer goes to Florida* and Notre Dame reaps what it has sown for the next 20 years. I can't wait til they quietly try to lower their academic standards and the full hypocrisy is uncovered.
TM
*If Meyer were smart, this is the job he would take. Big time program, no restrictions on the kids he can recruit.

Good lord. What is with you people? It's a fucking gift. Do you expect me to buy someone a three dollar corkscrew if it, in fact, is the best opener on the market? What I want to give is something that looks cool and is very easy to use. I saw this one in the movie Sideways and the actress operating it made it look like a snap. So call it what you want, but these judgments are stupid and pointless -- especially when the only alternative suggested so far has been a swiss army knife.

It's good to be a Met
Mets pitcher Kris Benson's wife Anna (who used to be a model and a stripper) has promised to fuck the entire Mets organization if she ever catches him cheating.
If I were a Met, I'd be buying that guy all kinds of hookers...

Which, as I may have mentioned, I have always found to be quite handy with respect to opening wine bottles. Often in outdoor, camping-related settings, but so be it. Also, as is the case with another alternative corkscrew suggestion that you neglected to mention, the Swiss Army Knife has a separate beer bottle-opening feature. Also quite handy. And tweezers for those unsightly and widely-despised nose hairs, although I have never used the tweezers for this purpose and therefore can provide no testimonial as to their handiness.

Houston is there a problem?
Any Rockets fans? the announcers in last night's Rockets/Pistons game were saying the McGrady integration has not gone smoothly and there is growing friction between the coach and some players. Is this really big or just trying to force a story? I could see some time needed as he goes from the sole option on offense to the primary option, but it doesn't really seem he's even the primary right now.

Settle down, Beavis.

Fringey PMed me that it wasn't sturdy enough to adequately perform this function.

Perhaps the funniest line from the interview.
"Mike Piazza just did a back flip," Stern said, egging her on. "Even the coaches? What about, like, the bat boys?"
Yeah, sure he did.
Indcidentally, do you think this is going to affect Pedro's decision one way or another?

PEople, PEople (you know, how gym teachers say it?), I can't stress this strongly enough:
do NOT pluck nose hairs. They're there for a reason. When they stray outside the confines of your nostrils, CUT -- don't pluck. In the alternative, you could just tuck them back up in there, but that's not foolproof. I hear sometimes they stray back out again.
(Does the Swiss Army Knife have a little pair of scissors?)

Yes, plus another gift of greater value that actually has the value at which it's priced.
Going into my scrooge mode, I've never understood paying excessive amounts for gifts simply because it's a gift. It's just throwing money away. If you want to spend more, buy more gifts or buy something else that is good. If you wouldn't buy the item yourself because it's just throwing away money, why buy it for someone else?
Example--my broker sends me a fruit basket every year. Not ordinary fruits, like pears, oranges, etc. such as Harry & David. No, it's some high-end "fruitier" in NYC that sends all nature of odd fruits--Kumquats, Asian pears, loquats, kiwis, and stranger shit I've never heard of. Personally, I'd be happier with the basic basket of pears. Or 5 of the basic baskets, which still would cost less.

2. And you know that whomever they hire will either blame Willingham for leaving him with a dog of a recruiting class, if he loses, or take all the credit, with no acknowledgment to Willingham's laying the groundwork, if he wins.

Why would I be offended? Do you not have nose hairs? Are you not a mammal?
(Actually, I don't know if nose hairs are a characteristic of all mammals, but I thought it made a nice sound bite. I can't see inside my dog's nose, but it doesn't look like she has any... eh, whatever.)
