I too can't even get to the point where I would safe-start it anymore -- most recently, all it does if I press the power button is make the power and the hard drive lights go on (steady), blink the caps lock light 10 times, and then all goes dark. It really seems like it's trying to tell me something with that caps lock light, but I don't speak its language.
That sounds like a power problem I had with a work-issued Dell. Try tightening all of the screws on the bottom of the computer (no need to open anything) and look to see if some might be missing. This is apparently a common problem with certain Dell models.

Also try unplugging it, removing and replacing the battery, and then plugging it back in.

You're married again?

Again? That weekend in Vegas didn't count because we had it annulled the following Tuesday.

I agree with that, but was angling for the pitcher of sangria before I spilled it...

The reason I mentioned virus is that I got a virus alert from McAfee that said some sort of worm causes your computer to continuously restart and malfunction. You may want to check their site for the fix if that is what it is.

Thanks all. My IT guy at work thinks it's the hard drive, not the motherboard, and offered to take a look at it if I bring it in to the office.

Unfortunately there are naked pictures on my hard drive. Of me, pre-pregnancy. Sigh. I really looked good.

Wrong on all counts. Don't believe everything paigow implies about people, darling.

Wait. Am I your baby's father?

I thought that's why we decided to do it "that" way, so you wouldn't get pregnant.

Mention that. It'll give him an extra push to get the computer up and running again.

I'm clearly kidding about the mantrapping, but I honestly thought that you had been married and then divorced, NTTAWWT.

Stupid question, maybe, but are you getting voltage out of your power supply? What you described is what happens when your battery is dead.

I didn't mean to imply there was something inherently wrong with divorce, either. I did end a long relationship early last year, but we were not married.
