No one's every arb'd a bet before. I assure you that if you could find such disparate odds somewhere, a bunch of other people would alread have driven the prices a lot closer together.

Is there such a thing as on-shore betting on the presidential race?

anyway, this one boils down to Kerry needs to hold EVERY one gore won, plus win Fla, or at least turn 2-3 smaller ones. The census shift gave the Bush state 6-7 more votes, so repeat of 2000 becomes a more comfortable win.

Ty. can you find a blog that looks at the electorla right now?
What I read is that when Bush improved his national numbers recently, he did this by increasing his margin in the states he was already winning. Kerry has been even or narrowly ahead in the battleground states. As Burger notes, what really matters is not the aggregate vote in these states, but how each is playing out. Surely someone tracks this, but I don't know who -- my source is e-mails my uncle sends me.

Since we all know Gore won the popular vote in Florida, in the meaningful sense (for these purposes) that more people went to polls to try to vote for him, that -- the inability of Dem voters to pull the lever for their candidate aside -- Kerry only has to win the states Gore won and he will be set.

Has the DNC sent the instructors down to Flroida to teach folks how to punch the hole next to Kerry's name?

I guess it was the "next to" think that was really confusing, right? I think they're donating copies of Tufte's books to county registrars in key states.

No. No American Idol, or MVP, or Cy Young, or Oscars either.

Jerry kennard has an interesting piece about what the left has to do to be in better position to win in November... I agree with lots of what he has to say....

Anal Itch
From Jerry Kennard,
Your Guide to Men's Health.

A common and annoying problem, anal itching can drive you mad. There are numerous causes for this embarrassing problem and remembering the old adage that common things commonly happen, most causes of an itchy butt have an easy cure. There are a few causes that require attention from your doctor as it can be a symptom of a more serious medical problem. Let’s have a look at the subject. Don’t scratch, read on!

Common Causes and Treatments of Anal Itching

Too Moist, Too Dry, Washed too much? Our skin does not tolerate excess. Too much moisture, dryness or too much attention can lead, especially in an area that is almost always covered up, to irritation. If the skin in the anal area is too dry look at possible causes. It could be that you may be washing the area but not rinsing properly; are you washing too often or using chemical irritants such as soaps, scented bleached tissues or bubble baths products, some of which can irritate? Changing the detergent in which you wash your clothes is a common cause of itching.

Too much moistness may be a result of the same chemical irritants. Excessive sweating, fecal or urinary incontinence may mean you need to use a barrier cream to stop irritation. Use creams that are used for babies as they are mild and will not contain damaging chemicals or drugs such as hydrocortisone. Try not to scratch, it will just cause damage to the skin that then cause itching as they heal, a vicious circle.

Foods

Some foods can be an irritant to your digestive system as well as your anus, heavily spiced foods, some vegetables and fruits such as tomatoes, oranges, chocolate or excessive amounts of fiber can all lead to irritation. Some people have food intolerances that cause irritation and /or diarrhea. Try omitting one possible cause at a time so you can work out what type of food is the cause, then cut it out of your diet or restrict your intake. You may need to seek advice from a doctor who can refer you to a dietician if there is no disease underlying the cause of your problem.

Laxatives

Too much use of laxatives causes irritation, especially as some laxatives are very powerful. If you are young and have no medical condition you should not need to use them at all. Make changes to your diet and add more fiber. Similarly, older people should look at upping their fiber intake to avoid their long term use. Consult your doctor if constipation is a recent problem as it could indicate there is a medical reason for it that requires attention.

Clothes

Cotton underwear or natural fibres can be healthier for your rear-end as they have a certain amount of absorbency. Synthetic material can cause sweating which can cause itching.

Anal Itching Caused by Medical Conditions that require Medical Intervention :

Hemorrhoids (Piles)

Piles are a common cause of anal itching. There are many over the counter creams and lotions from your pharmacy that can help. Witch hazel applied to the external anal area with cotton wool can be very soothing.

Anal abrasions

Abrasions that are present for what ever reason, scratching, rubbing or trauma, will cause severe itching. Treat the area gently and keep it clean. If you keep damaging the area it will not get the chance to heal.

Medication

There are a lot of medications, such as antibiotics, with side effects that can cause anal itching because they cause diarrhea. If the long term medication you are on is causing any side effects always go see your doctor. He may be able to change the drug type.

Skin Conditions

Psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, any skin disease requires the attention of your doctor. A specialist dermatologist may be the best person to treat the skin condition that is affecting your anal area causing itching. The creams and lotions used to sort out the problem usually contain drugs such as cortisone that need to be prescribed and monitored to avoid side effects that can cause long term problems.

Yeast Infections

Some diseases and medications cause yeast infections, HIV, diabetes, antibiotics.

Anal Tumours

In rare cases anal itching can be the result of anal tumours. Although some will not be cancerous it is important to seek an accurate diagnosis to get the appropriate treatment.

Anal Fissures and Tears

Often caused by stretching the muscle around the anal opening during defecation anal tears and fissures can be very painful. Requires medical attention to find out the cause and to monitor treatment and progress.

Parasitic Infestations

Common in children parasites such as pinworms can cause anal itching.

Psychological Problems

Stress can cause changes to your digestive system that can in turn cause anal itching.
