It does, but just into other ethnic minorities.

Naveen Andrews on Lost is ethnically Indian, but he plays an Iraqi on the series. Daniel Dae Kim on the same series is elated because he actually gets to play a Korean. Most of the time he's "generic asian" or some other ethnicity. Cliff Curtis felt similarly on Whale Rider, playing a Maori. Usually he plays a Hispanic. When Vin Diesel first started acting, he refused to talk about his ethnicity because he was worried that he'd be pigeonholed into certain roles, but I think it's since come out that he's half black, half white.

Oh. heh heh. I guess I forgot to complete that thought in writing.

I don't understand his success (not an original thought, but, alas, what I was going to say). I have endeavored to provide satisfaction, and am hopeful that I have succeeded.

I have never watched the whole movie. I got as far as the scene where Nicole and Tom were nancing about the bedroom, smoking pot. Tedious.

BUT, thank God for the Pause and Fast Forward buttons, because the magnificent creatures in the orgy scene (and the scene at the beginning where the chick overdoses) were worth the boredom of the rest of the flick. Kubrick picked the most perfect female forms I have ever seen. Simply astounding. Don't believe me, google image eyes wides hut until you find one. I can almost catch half an erection just visualizing those chicks in my head...

I'm glad he didn't, because he was great as The Iron Giant.

While I was investigating the Geisha thing yesterday, I learned that the actress who is going to play the lead in Memoirs of a Geisha is Chinese. Does that get any play in Japan? I'd think that would piss the Japanese public off, but what do I know.

[I just looked it up on IMDB and apparently the part was first offered to a Korean actress. Maybe no one acts in Japan.]

And he was cast as an Italian guy from Brooklyn in Private Ryan (also in Boiler Room?) as well as a Furian (whatever that is) in the Riddick movies.

Universal didn't seem to care much that a Texan played Bridget Jones to the very loud protests of some Brits.

I heard today that they're doing their annual reenactment of the Battle of Trafalger on it's 200th anniversary today, but because the French and the Brits are friends now they've decided to have a Red Fleet and a Blue Fleet. Lord Nelson's great-great-great-grandaughter said it's stupid. I agree.

Yes, but can she get into Hermes after hours?

I went to a magnet school for a couple of years in elementary school that was predominently black. It was an interesting experience to be in the minority, like on Picture Day, when they handed out picks instead of combs and I thought, "What the fuck am I supposed to do with this?"

During Black History Month, we had a series of activities marking the occasion. I was offered a part in the play. The role was some African American doctor who had discovered something or other. They dressed me in full surgical scrubs, with gloves, hat and a surgical mask. I thought I nailed the part, despite my hidden whiteness.

I found that to be the most boring orgy scene I've ever watched. Well, it might have been the only orgy scene I've ever watched, now that I think about it. But one would expect an orgy scene to be less boring than that one.

RE: Tom Cruise, I've never liked his acting from the Top Gun With Cars, Top Gun With Cocktails, Top Gun With Pool days, though I never begrudged him his personal life until this recent Scientology crap. And I didn't see Magnolia, which is probably the only one of his movies in the past 10 years that looked interesting to me. I've assumed that he is having some sort of breakdown and that he might disappear for a few months once the WotW press junket is over, but maybe it really is all some staged platform for getting Scientology out to the masses.

Top Gun is hands down the gayest movie of all time.

I agree the orgy scene was boring in EWS. But what were they going to do? Full multiple orifice/partner penetration?

My only point was the chicks were unreal.

I left Hoffman out of my list (despite his Oscar nom and win) because I thought that was an easy role to play.

Everyone keeps moaning about how this summer's box office slump is the longest in recent memory. Note to str8, if your industry made better movies, more people would go to see them. This is the crappiest crop of summer movies I can remember. And summer movies aren't supposed to be that good.

I went to the theater on Sunday evening and I ended up seeing Mr. & Mrs. Smith because nothing else interested me and I would have had to wait an hour to see Clones again.

Secondary note to str8: stop making remakes and sequels. Didn't Stepford Wives last summer teach you anything?
Points very well taken. I'll circulate a memo.
Oh, and if Stepford Wives didn't, you'd think Honeymooners would. But then, people point to Longest Yard (on its way to $160M domestic, despite being the worst movie ever made). So I doubt it'll stop. Remakes are way better when they're given a different title and setting (i.e. Star Wars, aka High Noon in outer space).

I'd way rather go to Commerce Casino than the office today. All that awaits me there are producer agreements and audit settlements. At Commerce, I can flop the nut straight and walk it all the way home.

Young? Thanks for the compliment but I think it's well-preserved.
