That should be great. If you have tickets that get you into all of the gymnastics events, and you are weighing which ones to see, be sure to go to the individual event finals. In recent Olympics, the team competitions end up with (IMHO) watered down routines in terms of risk and originality, so that the gymnasts can nail the routines in terms of form and lack of breaks and/or falls. But for the individual event finals, they have ramped up the routines, adding, for example, more release moves on high bar, making it more exciting to watch.

That is a great idea, not sure why I didn't think of that....I'll go to Dick's or Modell's this weekend and look around...
Thank you.
Okay, went on Dick's website. Anything special I am supposed to look for in features? thanks...

actually, smarty-pants I found one that does step count as well as distance and calorie burning, not that I don't appreciate step count, but I do want to focus on distance and an easy-read display.

It's kind of a simple tool that can have various bells and whistles added. I just bought a new one based on relative simplicity (didn't think I need a nightlight, for example) and because it was cheap. The most complicated thing is to figure out your stride length. Otherwise, pick one that seems relatively sturdy, reasonably priced and not too complicated to set up. It would probably be helpful to talk to a staff person at a decent sporting goods or running store.

I'm really curious about these BodyBugg things that the contestants on The Biggest Loser are wearing.

I love love love my heart rate monitor when I work out. I wonder if wearing something like this would be a further incentive.

Another hint is to estimate your stride length and then double check your accuracy on a track or some other path where you know the distance.
I got frustrated last summer with the pedometer I bought in Colorado because it would routinely clock the walk in and out of town as being 2 completely different lengths.

That BodyBugg thing looks way cool.
Do you know if there is something on the web that discusses optimal heart rate zones for women that isn't a crock? Is that truly a cardio truism that you must sustain the zone for 20-40 so odd mins?
Also, I must research stride length now. Very interesting tips.
Thanks...

You don't really need to research it, per se. The pedometer will have instructions. Generally you walk or run 10 or 12 steps, figure out the length with a tape measure, do some simple math and enter the number into the pedometer.
Bn'B's right about double-checking the distance. I often run on a bike trail and I was able to double-check the distance of a 3 mile and 5 mile run with my bike's cat eye (hi Coltrane!). You just want to make sure that your sample steps match the steps you take on an actual walk or run.

Your heart rate zones involve calculations based on your age, your resting heart rate, your max heart rate. I think it takes some doing to figure out if you do not have a program.

If Chamberlain puts on a few pounds (like his hero Roger) on the offseason and has a bad outing or two, what's the over/under on the first "Joba the Hut" headline on the back page of the Post? I say April 3.

The American College of Cardiology has actually increased the number to12,500. I average between 5000 and 8500 when I don't make the effort to put in more. It doesn't take a lot of extra effort, but you do have to take a walk just for the sake of walking to actually hit the target.

Step count is the important thing to focus on. Distance doesn't really mean shit and caaloriews burned is based on an average person with an average metabolism and an average muscle/fat distribution. By definition, such a person isn't you.
