Am I the only one who hears the screams?

I have the fuck-you face on today. But I am very needy and just operating under a facade of toughness. Does anyone want to hear about my terminally ill father?

First off, I have no statistical data, but I know in places like Long Island there is a high incidence of breast cancer. It seems, again no data to be prevelant in areas of NJ and the tri state area. When I worked in Boston, there seemed to be less people with cancer, and less talk of relatives of cancer than while in NY, but that could be a) that they chose not to share and b) we're talking about a city with 9 million.
NYers are very needy and lonely although they operate under a facade of toughness. They trap you in the bathroom and the coffee kitchen and let it pour out. I have that face that makes it seem like I am sympathetic and that wears on me when I'm trying to kick out work and deal with my own shit.
I think if someone has a terminal illness it is of course, horrible and I am sympathetic but I do not think at work I should have to hear the intimate details about it from casual co workers I am not close with.

So your theory is that New Yorkers are basically bigger complainers due in part to the undercurrent of loneliness and desperation the permeates the city, and also that you are a bit of a complaint magnet. I suppose this could be. I reject your other theories that New Yorkers are more sickly, and that New York is a big city so you therefore hear about more disease and suffering. Reject! To the extent that there is some statistically significant increase in the rate of serious illness in New York, this would not likely translate into you encountering more (or at least many more) sick people in your daily life than non-New Yorkers do unless you have significant interaction with hundreds of thousands of people a year. As for New York having lots of people, I think Thurgreed is right that you probably interact with the same number of people in New York on a daily basis than you did in Boston.
Bottom line? I think you need to work on coming off as a little more self-absorbed, and then people will be less likely to open up to you with their annoying little problems.

You're kidding, but there is some truth to it. I have a friend who routinely travels to TCOTU for work. He works for a large company and often has to manage employees in the NYC office. He (a) rarely says anything bad about anyone, and (b) has told me on numerous occasions that the amount of bitching and whining that goes on at the NYC office is unblieveable. They show up late and complain throughout the day. ALL OF THEM. He said it's probably so integrated into their communication that they don't even know they're doing it.
Of course, it might just be that office, and not the entire city, but it's much more fun to make sweeping generalizations.

I'm done explaining. You people are so fucking needy. Why does everything need to be explained?
"Oh Flower, I always get pee on myself when I go to the urinal."
You need to hold your cock while you pee and direct the urine stream toward the urinal.
"Oh Flower, my girlfriend alway cries out in pain when I attempt anal sex."
You need to lubricate your cock thoroughly and get her good and drunk first.
"Oh Flower, whenever I need to run up or down stairs, my penis gets sore from flopping about in my pants."
You need to either stopping going commando or apply topical anesthetic to your penis so you don't notice the pain.
I swear I wonder how some of you even make it through the day without me.

They're Japanese girls trying on Sox hats. That's the first $50 of the marketing millions. Duh!

From what I've read, if there's a fall through in the negotiations, it's going to be about the length of the contract, rather than the dollars. Boras is going to try to get him a 2 or 3 year contract (or at least an out after 2-3 years) and the Sox want to tie him up for 5 plus.
They'll be talking about similar per year averages, but it won't be a fair comparison because he'd be a free agent after 2 years--so years 3-5 of the contract should reflect that. Boras asks for something like 3/$30mm (7, 8, 15), Sox offer 6/$65MM (5, 6, 12, 13, 14, 15). Both sides have an argument that they're dealing in good faith.

1. Much like I doubt the many instances of strangers stopping you to tell you how beautiful you are, how often you get hit on and your own opinions on your beauty, I doubt that people are constantly trapping you to tell you about their personal problems. I think what probably happens is, you overhear someone talking to someone else and you immediately start minding their business. And then you translate it, much as you do with everything else, exaggerate it and bring it here to make some ridiculous point.
2. I find it discomforting that you think you speak for New Yorkers other than the upstate ones, since you live hours outside of the city. But then again, you speak for lawyers and hedge fund managers without being one, so I guess I'm not surprised.
3. You are mixing up the words "sympathetic" and "pathetic" again.
