So, have you encountered the guy who puts his age at 34, but then tells you in his e-mail that he's really 40, but he put 34 because he's very young for his age and he didn't want to be excluded from the results of women searching for men under 40?

How about the guy who's 47 but is willing to date women "18 to 29". He's a keeper too.

Oh, and one more word of advice. If he's wearing a hat in all of the pictures in his profile, he's bald.

One of my favorites was the guy who e-mailed me and told me that he didn't care if I was interested in him or not, but he wanted me to at least e-mail him back and tell him I wasn't interested b/c he'd e-mailed over 50 women and none of them had responded to him. Gee, that really makes me want to date you. And chat with you over e-mail.

Online dating can be a great way of meeting people, but you have to be willing to play the numbers game and have the time to meet 10 people with whom you have no chemistry for every one person you end up wanting to see again.

Yeesh, I don't envy you. My recommendation is to continue to respond only to those who interest you. You reserve all rights to drop off the face of the earth until you tell them otherwise. Someone may do the same to you but that's the way it is. Don't know where you are posting and whether or not it includes a picture but I also suggest rewriting your words so as to scare off the no-chance-in-hells while hopefully luring whatever kind of person you want. You need to know what kind of bait to use for the fish you want to catch, not every bottom dweller in the pond.

Are you replying to his e-mails or is he just sending serial e-mails? If the latter, reply to the most recent one and say "hey, I've received all of your e-mails and don't really have the time to reply to all of them as I'm extremely busy at work and won't have time to read any of them until the weekend (or some date in the future).
If he doesn't take a hint that you're busy and won't reply, maybe they slow down. If they don't slow down, then block them.eta that some people just have a lot of time at work. Some people send e-mails, some people post on internet chat boards.

I have specified a certain income range, a height range, an age range, a "must be good-looking" in my profile - I have said I don't want kids and don't want to get married.

And yet I get ugly, poor, elderly midgets who want 8 kids and a soulmate to settle down with. I'm beginning to think the illiteracy rate in the US is severely understated.
