Really? I always find that AT stuff is tight in all the wrong places -- like under the arms and up the butt and around the elbows.

rereading that, I had about 4 different thoughts in one paragraph and they didn't all go together. So which part did you mean? I'm pretty sure not that ncs and MM are best qualified to comment on your clothing choices.

That for work clothes I shop at a lot of different places. Some nicer than others but for every day work stuff Ann Taylor is not a bad place to shop. They made it sound like it was like Ames or some shit. And the irony is the one that got all hard about work clothes is the one that doesn't work. d'oh!

I wear a lot of sweaters, and not jackets or fitted shirts, so the elbows/arms thing not an issue really. I generally find jackets really uncomfortable and tend not to wear them.
I don't recall issues with their pants crawling up my butt.

I have difficulty with up the butt for most pants everywhere. It's why I don't wear them (except jeans). I think that it is just an issue for long-torsoed women. Maybe AT especially caters to the shorter-torsoed woman pants-wise.

I have never seen you look like a 2L interviewing, but I think you may be taking bnb's statement a bit more literally than it was intended. (Not that Ann Taylor clothes look like summer associate clothes, but that they were the clothes that she bought before being a summer associate. And now that I think about it, I shopped there quite a bit for first year associate suits, all of which have now left my closet.)
I have some work pants from Ann Taylor and I must be the person they design them for because those are among my more comfortable and better fitting work pants. I do agree that the store tends too far towards synthectic fibers, though having a bit of stretch in some of the work pants is nice. And recall that I also have been known to buy Gap work pants, so most likely my standards cannot be trusted.
The only department store I go into regularly at this point is Nordstrom and really that is only because I have one across the street from my apartment. It is almost always disappointing too because it was a test store that was made significantly smaller than most Nordstroms and so selection in all areas (including, alas, shoes) is limited*. After they opened that store, I have heard that the response was not good and they bagged the idea of smaller Nordstrom stores in the future. Lucky me.
*Though now that I think about it, the men's department does tend to have good items and the men's shoe department is almost as big as women's so maybe this was some mastermind plot by a man to limit the women's stuff while getting full selection for himself. Evil genius.

Not even. I am very short torsoed. It's why I can't (or won't) wear big belts. They cut into my ribcage. But I digress.

The problem with Nordstrom is that the service is so excellent that it almost makes you want to buy things you don't really like.

Assholes. What really pissed me off is when Nordstrom discontinued pretty much every petite line except for the house brand (Classiques) and the other one that uses nothing but synthetic fabrics. I miss Ralph Lauren.
