Stinkin' Bar Exams
Has anyone ever taken a BarBri self-study course? I am signed up for one, and am wondering if I'm going to have difficulty just listening to a lecture instead of having some person up there to watch.
If it helps with your answer, consider the fact that I enjoy listening to baseball games on the radio almost as much as watching them on tv.

Seriously? To me, the Tangueray and DEET comment was way more to the side of good than the poutine pun was to the side of evil.

Mr. Man and I both studied for California with the BarBri CD's (now I think they do the iPods instead, but same deal). Was no different from going and attending the classes, but it was far more convenient (if we wanted to skip a night and catch up later, or take an ill-advised trip to NYC to "study" a week before the exam, no problem!).
We both passed. Yay us.

Not seriously. But the poutine pun was pretty bad. I give partial nostalgia credit because I can imagine my dad making it.

Thanks, that's encouraging.
Yeah - it's iPods. The books have arrived, but the iPod won't be here until January 1. I am aquiver with excitement, let me tell you.
In NY (iirc), you don't submit your application to the bar until after you pass the test, but in other jurisdictions, you do it before the test (in fact, you can't take the test in CT until you submit the application). I had lunch with a friend not long ago and he mentioned that NY is quirky in that regard. Lucky for me he brought it up, otherwise I would have thought I could submit the thing the day before (or whenever it struck my fancy -- heh -- not that fancy) and I would have been frozen out of the CT bar exam!! On second thought, as I'm taking the February test, I may be frozen anyway.

I cannot believe that is true. Moreover, even if it is true, I am pretty sure I could make it untrue pretty quickly.

You'll be hating when you find out that the pic comes up on "tapir" images.
Jesus people. You all act like we're the first people to ever discuss tapir dick. And now, I guarantee you it won't be last. Some of you will discuss it tonight. I would put money on it.

A year and 2 weeks after passing the CA test, they finally approved my moral character application.
I guess the bribe check finally cleared.

Well, duh. What else is there to talk about?

I did for California seven years ago. (Damn, fuck.) I started about four weeks before the exam. I took the tapes to a local coffee house and listened to them while curled up on a nice soft easy chair for about 13 to 15 hours a day. After a week or so, the barristas got to know me, take pity on me, and give me the screwed up orders that they otherwise would have thrown away.* That environment actually made studying for the bar a rather pleasant experience. Not that I want to do it again.
I ended up buying a chair exactly like the one in the coffee house because it was so comfortable. I also gave the barristas several gift certifcates to Soundwaves, because I got sick of the dozen or so CDs that were kept in the coffe house very quickly.
*The orders that were made perfectly fine, but weren't what the person had ordered or were duplicates or had fat in the nonfat latte or whatever.

Four weeks!?! Wow. I can't remember how long the course was when I took it in the Mesozoic Era, but I thought it was about a 2 month study thing. I figured I'd rather stuck indoors studying when it's 20 degrees outside, instead of in June and July.
I may have to find a comfortable Starbucks and start passing gift certificates around.
