MVP

From the Daily Quickie on ESPN.com:

"Two Words For You:
MOST VALUABLE.

A-Rod or Big Papi? That's THE question of the day: Which AL MVP contender do you support?

Fans fall on one side or the other; there's no room for soft support in this most contentious of winner-take-all MLB award debates.

A-Rod? Love the numbers.
Ortiz? Love the clutchness.

A-Rod? Hate the prissy mug.
Ortiz? Hate the prissy DH.

We can all agree that A-Rod is as unliked as Papi is popular, but any outcome except A-Rod as MVP would be a farce.

Compare the stats: A-Rod was 1st in the AL in four key categories (OPS, SLG, HR, R), 2nd in BA and OBP, 3rd in BB, 4th in RBI and even added 21 SB.

Ortiz is behind A-Rod in every other significant category except RBI and walks. Please stop whining about Papi's late-inning heroics.

And that doesn't even factor in defense, which is overrated as a point of argument (but not so overrated that it should be ignored entirely).

Ortiz is a fabulous choice . . .
as a runner-up for AL MVP.

Bottom of the 9th, two outs, runner on first, down 1 run?

Sure, I'll take Big Papi.

But for an entire season?

It's not even close: A-Rod."
__________

I never thought I would be rooting against a Yankee to win MVP, especially when a Bosox player could win it. But I don't want ARod to get it. I don't want him to be acknowledged. I don't want him walking around thinking he's the MVP. He's not. Not even close. If I cringe when you walk to the plate in the playoffs with runners in scoring position, you can't have it. And even though it's a regular season award, you don't fucking deserve it.

Right.

Then my future ex-wife does not have one.

Seems right since you live in Florida.

ETA: that was mean. You are most definitely one of the 10% of Floridians who are not white trash. Unless you have a car with a sticker which depicts Calvin peeing on a Ford.

Neither. Paul Konerko should win.

That might be a bit disconcerting to certain people, iykwim.

General question(s) for those with tattoos:

How do you choose your tattoo artist? My tattoo was done by my former secretary's son, and I'm quite pleased with it. I'd seen some work that he had done on her legs, which I thought was fairly good, and I didn't have any other tattooist recs in the area. I'm thinking about getting another one and have moved from that area.

Also, did you go with flash or did you develop your own design? I brought in a photograph of what I wanted and he duplicated it perfectly.

I got my first tattoo (right hip under bikini area) in 1996, I designed it myself, and I simply walked into a tattoo parlor and walked out with it done.

I got my second tattoo (tramp stamp) in 1999, I designed it myself, and I went to an artist recommended by my now ex-husband.

I am happy with both. I want another one, but I am leary of crossing the three tattoo limit. I would have to simply give up and become a stripper I think if I did that.

I often have dreams in which my body, or very public parts of it, is covered in heinous tattoos. To the point of waking up really upset about it.

My first tattoo, I went to an artist who had recently done my boyfriend's tattoo. I knew what I wanted in a general sense. He drew something after we talked for a while. I loved it. I still do, actually.

My second tattoo, I went back to the same artist, this time with artwork in hand. He told me he was in a bad mood that day, and unless I planned to put the tattoo on my inner thigh, he'd just as soon not do it. He recommended a friend of his, in the shop, who he said would do a good job. And boy, oh boy, did he ever.

The last tattto, I went to an artist who has done a couple of tattoos on both my brother and his girlfriend, and they are all really nice work. I went into the shop with ideas and nothing more. She and I spent a little more than an hour working out the design. It actually is really meaningful to me and I've never gotten a tattoo I like more than this one.

So, RT, if you'd like a new tattoo, I suggest you come on down to Florida, we'll have a nice dinner, and I'll take you over to Dana for a new tattoo.

eta- apparently, now, based on the ABBARules, I have to become a stripper.

This may be one of the most surprising things I've ever read on this board.
