I don't mean to cause a stir but I have to weigh in that I have always viewed soccer as a game that is played by either candy-asses or euro-wannabes or a mix of the two. Its not so much that the lads are poofsters, just a little delicate. After all, essentially it is just open field hackey sack. Cementing my thought, I read an article last week on Yahoo about a Thai prison that organized a soccer match between prisoners and elephants. Elephants? I think that says it all.

I am stunned stunned stunned. A-Rod was just incredible such a player. Pedro and Manny Ramirez can kiss my festive ass. Cairo and Sierra just kicked butt. Mo was great. Even poor parasite ridden Giambi gamely tried to have a go at it. He looked awful...drained and weak. But just incredible energy.
I am still confused about why nomar was sulking at the bench when everyone else was hanging over the bar. was it in protest?
But Pedro hitting sheffield was SO WRONG. I thought they would street brawl right there. Even since pedro pushed the gerbil down, he's needed a beat down.
Though I must say, Manny and Pedro's 'fros are pretty slammin'

Granted, highlight reels where guys do amazing shit are cool, but I imagine there are some pretty good highlight reels from bass fishing tournaments as well.
And as to QBs being physically imposing, have you seen a lot of QBs on television out of pads? They're pretty average looking. Sure, there are some old school freaks like Jim Kelly, who played linebacker before QB, but take a look at Brady or Manning (they're a little tall, but not physical freaks... or maybe I just know way more 6'4 people than than most folks), or watch Phil Simms do commentary. You think Montana was a physical freak? I'd also invite you to look at a picture of Jerry Rice. These guys are not physical monsters, just average guys in really good shape, with some added muscle which most average men could put on if they had the time and inclination. Now, the ability to lose a corner or read coverage and scramble and throw 25yds on the run... that is something, but I think that's more learned skill than just physical ability. Otherwise, every sprinter or guy with a serious gun on his shoulder would be a pro football player.
ETA: To the fuck who will post Brady and Mannig's stats and say "6'4, 22 is not a freak????" I offer that I have about four or five friends of comparable height and size. In fact, you all probaly converse with one...

You, Sebastian, among all posters, have a unique ability to obliviously contradict yourself within the same post.

He shouldn't be playing. He's not ready. A few innings with the Paw Sox, isn't going to get anybody ready for the major league season.
Over the weekend, the Sox radio guys were talking about some new prospect, who's been tearing it up in the minors. They made an interesting comment, how you want a guy to dominate a league before you bring him up to the next level. Nomar was pathetic at Pawtucket and should be sent back down. If you have to play yourself into shape, don't be doing it in the majors. I thought Francona was smarter than that.

I think you make an interesting point. The player should dominate the minors befor going to the next level. Alternatively, look at Hideki Matsui. He was touted as the home run king of the Japanese league. When he got here, he did not perform the home runs initially as advertised, but then people started to notice what a well rounded all around player in general he is. Then he got into his groove and the home runs came....

Prediction: History will show that this sock's only noteworthy contribution to the FB will be the initiation of an interminable thread on the pissing habits of male attorneys.

Of course it is. But the simple fact that you actually felt the need to point that out, makes it worthwhile.
I don't think soccer is a bad sport. I think it could be better. I don't like it, but I recognize that I am in a very small minority. Some of the most skilled athletes in the world play soccer. It is a complex, game where speed, stamina, quickness and skill are all necessary elements. But it still sucks.

Don't count your chickens before they come home to roost, missy.
Yanks sweep Sox? Yes, but!

It is too early to tell, but--you have to admire how they rallied.
