Second SbUX q: Are the beans different/better than any old coffee shop (for the same type of bean, e.g., Kenya AA)? Or are they just charging $3 more per pound for atmosphere there too?
BTW, how does one pronounce WTF? Wuh-tiff? Withph? Either way, seeing the Passion doesn't get you out off hell for all the strippers.

I heard someone order a "triple Americano" this morning. I have no idea what that means.
The sad thing is that my comm. real estate friend told me that "you wouldn't believe what a Starbucks does for a office building rents-wise."

Have you been to a dunkin donuts more recently than say 1992? It tastes like watered down starbucks and comes in a styrofoam cup to boot. hyou just have fond memories, dear. I can confirm this bc I was in Mass a couple of weeks back where Drunkin Donuts still rules the world. Woostah!

BUt yeah, the best commercial ever. When it got the RJ stuff I almost peed my pants.

Not a coffee drinker, but the Tazo teas at Starbucks are fine. Not as good as the loose teas from real tea places, but much better than what they stock here at my office. I buy boxes there all the time for my work consumption.
By the way, I know that none of you care about this and this thread was mainly set up to show what cool, indie thinkers we have on the boards that no one will fess up to drinking (and liking) Starbucks, but I honestly don't care. That is how much of an indie thinker I am today.

I bet SS owns Starbucks, b/c they are taking over the world.
Has Starbucks ruined NYC too? All the cafes in Chicago have disappeared. Still some great ones left, but my Fred...
And now I have to deal with them when I'm in Paris? I hate them and their addicting coffee that tastes like burnt cow shit.

The good news for Starbucks haters is that coffee culture in Europe is apparently quite different than it is in the U.S. People go to cafes to sit and have coffee in actual cups and hang out, not grab 20 oz. of hyper-caffeinated slurry and buzz off. So, the early word (anecdotal) is that European Starbucks are not faring so well. Having said that, I do not drink coffee, so I therefore do not really give a fuck.

If you are a fan of tea, may I suggest www.tealuxe.com?
I am a huge fan of the Rote Grutze, iced.

I drink Starbucks all the time. I'm pissed b/c I work in the only building in D.C. where there isn't a Starbucks within a 3 block radius and I have to go to this crappy independent coffee shop where the coffee tastes like dishwater. I would love for one of the stupid stores on the ground level of my building to close down so that a Starbucks can swoop in and start siphoning all my money. I even have a Starbucks card so I don't need cash when I go to one! Yay Starbucks!

I drink Starbucks b/c I have no other choice. That's clearly a lie, since I can drink the stuff here at the office but refuse to b/c it's even worse than Starfucks.
And it tastes like shit. I really think they have injected extra caffeine into their coffee to get people addicted to it. If I have two cups I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack. And I can drink as much coffee as I want from other sources. No one would ever drink it for the taste.

Donuts and muffins have carbs , dude.
Actually, no. I just prefer my coffee straight up, without the breakfast cake chaser.

And what about poor Larry Ellison? No one wants to be #1 more than that guy. It drives him nuts that Gates has more money. He's the king of the Napolean w/ a little dick complex.

I also am not within a block of Starbucks and happen to love the venti americanos. its iced crack. good shit, man. And I wm willing to bet you a glass of champagne tonight that the indie coffee shop is actually not an indie at all. probably a local chain of regional chain.
